I've been using mine for a while now, and can tell you that this is about the coolest invention I've seen in a while. Originally, I wasn't sure why I'd need one...now I can't travel without it. I sit in airports watching TV on my MacBook, and always get 1-2 people that ask about it.

  3. Yes...and no. on Does Portable Music Have to be Compressed? · · Score: 1

I think it depends on the music. If I'm listening to Mahlers 'Resurection' on my iPod, I'm going to want a lossless rip of the CD. If I'm listening to Kid Rock, I could care less.

I think this isn't so much of an issue as it was 5 years ago. When you have a 5gb iPod, that's only 8 CDs...when you have a 80GB one, that's over 100. Big difference. I STILL only load 5-6 at a time on my iPod, because I don't feel I need to carry my entire collection around with me everywhere I go. I don't listen to 1/8 of my collection in a year anyway...why would I want to have it all in my pocket?

But then again...that's just my opinion.

I'm an ADC Select developer, and have one of the P4 'G5' boxes on my desk...I see no signifigant speed differences one way or another on native apps. Photoshop and the Altivec-intence apps are a LITTLE sluggish, but nothing that a native build won't fix.

Rosetta is a real nice little ...er...application. We have yet to find something that'll choke it and not run on this box.

Now keep in mind, this is all just the quickie/development/transition box. I'd expect that the production boxes will have a better processor in them and should make for a seemless user experience.

For whatever reason people are boycotting a Intel, I'd say it's a bit foolish to pre-judge what will/wont be available for another 8-10mos.
