Only problem with your statement is that so far the start of every full blown war has helped the US economy. I'm not talking about peacekeeping or drawn out police actions...I mean war. WWI, WWII, Cold War. All boosted the US economy to some degree.

One of the main reasons is that these companies decide to bring jobs back to the US. Not sure if this will happen in this age of a global market. But the tension between US and China has been growing for a very long time.

  5. Who is publishing this? on An FPS Minus the Shooting · · Score: 1

What publisher is actually gonna take this on? Most gamers would die of boredom very very quickly with this. Most gamers get bored with MW2 and BFBC2 after only a short period. Maybe if they took out the gore they could market this as a TEEN game but otherwise this will be a Crash and Burn no win situation for the publisher.

  6. Re:Why not more options? on Developer Panel Asks Whether AAA Games Are Too Long · · Score: 1

Only problem with Demos is that all the current demos I've played either require you to pre-order the game or the developers spend extra time on the demo to hype the game and when the game actually is released its only resemblance to the demo is maybe some of the art and parts of the storyline...and these usually don't fit in anywhere.

  7. Who actually wrote this study? on Developer Panel Asks Whether AAA Games Are Too Long · · Score: 1

Whoever did this study must not been a real gamer(s). If someone would make a good game with 10 hours of actual gameplay I would completely endorse them. I own both ME1 and ME2 and have pre-ordered ME3, these games are single player and I have gone thru ME2 including all the DLC at least twice. I also love Fable, currently replaying Fable III for the second time. And don't even get me started on classics like Zelda, Final Fantasy Series, or any of the or Guild Wars. On the other hand some friends and I play the hell out of ARMA II: Operation Arrowhead. My big issue and what most gamers have said is that the current crop of games just SUCK!

What they should have said was that some people prefer short games. Why those people pay $50+ for a short game that really isn't fun is beyond me. But each person has their own opinion.

Codemasters has really lost a ton of their fan base recently...Mainly due to screwing up the Operation Flashpoint franchise. Even their multiplayer servers for OP:Dragon Rising were completely buggy and they never did get a patch to fix it. Now the next installment is coming out with a metascore of 63....WOW!!

What happened to you guys. The first Operation Flashpoint was so ahead of its time and a great game.

  9. Re:PC Gaming Alliance is a Joke on PC Gaming Alliance's New President Talks DRM, System Requirements · · Score: 1

First PC games don't have to specifically support a TV in order to be played on a TV. All new TVs come with a DVI, VGA, S-Video, or Composite port(s). And PC video drivers all come with TV support native. You can buy any of the cable configurations 6' long for $5 and a 30' is between $10 and $20 depending on which type of cable your needing.

Second you can go to Walmart and buy a $450 computer that will run most games on medium to low graphics and they will still look better than console games due to the fact that PCs have better processing power even if your using an on-board video card.

and Last anyone who is buying these games probably has a job and is out of the house for at least 8 hrs a day. Start it to DLing in the morning and when you get home hit the "Play" button...really not a problem. I downloaded Bad Company 2, which happens to be over 8GB, while I was at work one day and I live in a rural area where the broadband may say its 10MB down but every time I check it is less than 6.5MB at the most.

  11. Seriously??? on DRM vs. Unfinished Games · · Score: 1

Maybe these bozos should worry about making a descent game before worrying about pirating...Operation Flashpoint was way ahead of its time when it came out...Operation Flashpoint: Dragon Rising was the worst game I've bought in the entire past two years. Whether your games are being pirated or not is no reason to make a game that bad. Hell the pre-order price was 59.95 within two months I could buy it on Steam for $10. As far as the scheme for DLC is concerned they didn't have any. I still boot it up every now and again to see if they may have done something right but now they have even completely stopped supporting the game. Why should people purchase a half finished game from a company who has shown that instead of finishing a game and providing DLC for it they just give up and move on?

On the other hand I still haven't gotten around to finishing FFX which I've owned for 2 years. In that case I would have come out cheaper buying the game out right.
