Instead of jailing marks who fall for this crap howabout a system which reviews the trap they fell into if it comes under the heading of "Only an idiot" would fall for this then the next time they touch a computer 20KVa gets whacked down the line to them and the same to the orginator of the spam.
Result: One less idiot, one less spammer. Average IQ of world goes up:)
(And same goes for people who respond to the I am your bank and have lost all your details please tell me them again emails - if they've lost all the details how do they know to email you;> )
Assuming a third party isn't dropping your email... if they are then that's almost as bad the spam deluge - I'd rather be the one to decide what is spam than a third party who may or may not have a clue.
And if I use a nice fast (say f2.8) lens or a stabilized lens (such as the Cannon IS or Nikon VR ranges) I don't need to use flash ergo less damage than someone using a small compact camera.
If museums didn't get shirty with people using monopods as well as 'good' lenses then there would be even less need for flash.
That first email isn't dated... so unless you could some how run queries back in time its hard to say if/. never featured in a "help with the internet" query.
(Possibly some old story using those words? )
Or as you say some india delta one zero tango pulling the editors leg...
Not in my case, already too fat from too much coke and pizza at work and the odd beer session in the evening (and yes, I did just type bear session until I wondered why it looked wrong;) )
I would be surprised, especially in the current economic climate, if you can find a company who will be prepared to sponsor your visa application for a short term internship... for the hassle of getting your visa in 3 months how much will you be able to contribute that a student with right to work in the US already granted couldn't do themselves?
Reckon in 500m years from now there will be the equivalent a large keep out/danger of death sign on our solar system after we've screwed it up - the kind you see on toxic waste dumps:)
Still more secure than relying on a third party to do the encrypt/decrypt for me...
I'd probably not bother though;)
Just stick the really meaty bits in the middle of a load of mail text culled from all the spam I've received... watch it get earthspiked by the listening systems as just more spam;)
If its my own terminal under my own control I know what I've installed on it... that's the whole point - a PC I have direct control over also applies to the terminal without a network connection:)
Depending on how you define secure then no, Hushmail is not.
Personally if I want to send encrypted mail I will do so on a PC I have direct control over, I will carry out the encryption before the email goes anywhere. And depending on the type of encryption used, I might even carry out the encryption on a terminal which has no network connections etc and after encrypting the mail will shutdown the PC and leave it shutdown for a while - this setup would have no swap partition etc, or if it did it would be a minimum of baseline encrypted.
As for Hushmail - its secure if you trust them to use suitable encryption algorithm, key material, psuedo random number generator, secure processes (not the program kind, the how to do the job kind), secure network, no shady or otherwise agreements with third parties (inc. governments) to provide decrypted data, not to store your orginal plain-text mail for any longer than the time it takes to encrypt it, securely erase the plain-text version etc etc etc. Probably enough holes to drive a bus through...
Who the hell thinks that piracy is a big enough issue to tackle, anyway? Batman made $442,081,677. That's 58 million shy of a billion dollars! And who would think that a cam of the movie is a good substitute for the theatre anyway?
Hm. Think your maths is a tad wonky.... $442m + 58m = $500.
I read the title and for some reason my brain read it as 'Jerry Seinfield will pull plug...'

Thank god for that or the world would need a new product to hold up as shining example of vapourware ;)
(Microsoft works which actually lives up to the name would be a candidate, linux desktop edition another)
It does.
The author though doesn't just want to encrypt the file in transit he wants to encrypt & digitally sign the file when it is stored on the ftp server.
You might be the one who did alot of the work but if it was done as part of your job then you don't own the IP - the company you work for does.

Err... he did have a fire in his home.
A fair few household chemicals are either flammable or give off nasty fumes when burnt...

I would look closer to home.
Since when is /. a blog???
Suspect /. being a blog is news (hey, maybe that would be more news worthy than some of the news ;) ) to alot of people on here...
For car based Air Con it might improve the ~ 10% fuel efficiency penalty...
Quasi is 'as-if' or 'sort-of'
Fere is 'almost' - which rolls of the tongue slightly easier...
So think these new crystals could be called Fere quassi crystallinus (almost sort-of crystals) instead ;)

Shouldn't that be people who live in glass houses shouldn't throw chairs...
How about we all configure our mail server to reject any mail from yahoo - that should cut down a fair bit of crap from my inbox... :)

$500m != $1bn
$500m == $0.5bn
Aren't these the exact same spec as the XO laptop? And so... are designed for the needs you are talking about ;)
In shock news today it was discovered someone somewhere actually read a blog.
Whoopy do.
(Actually given most the blogs I've seen it someone reading a blog and taking notice of anything in it is probably news ;) )
Struggling very hard and failing to see the news in this...
Other than it features Comcast in a good (?) light for once.
