Do you actually use this stuff?? Powercore... FW. Duende... FW. Lynx... FW. Metric Halo... FW. I only know of a handful of USB audio and they are all prosumer variety. And yeah... I have a Mac Pro in the STUDIO. When I'm on location... I don't take it w/ me and why should I dump $2K on a laptop which isn't my main money maker?
The vast majority of portable audio interfaces are firewire... because at this point there is no alternative. USB2 for audio pretty much sucks. All of the portable plugin hosts are firewire. It has nothing to do w/ "audio is slow to adopt to standards". Firewire is the proven low latency interface for audio.
Apple is being Apple... they try to force their users - being the fanboys they are - to shell out more money for the "Pro" series. So much for their 'warning' to the market about slimmer margins. I don't know where that was coming from or referring to.
If I didn't already have a huge amount of money invested in Mac audio software, I'd flee.
Or maybe its because we follow the one of the last American innovative companies! Apple's stock was flat last week... how about the rest of the tech sector?
Uhhh... I read a book entitled "Neanderthal's Necklace" which was recommended by THIS website years ago! The general consensus was Neanderthal's were more advanced than previously thought. They engaged in rudimentary communication, started fires, crude drawings, etc. This is "news"???
I see RogueWave still sells C++ libraries (esp their network/interop libs) so I'd say STL isn't all that.
No Chapter On The "Failed Off-Shoring"??

Maybe the author should stop by where I work. He can talk to the people they are hiring *back* after the off-shore company ripped us off for millions giving us crap code which was basically unsupportable written by the "experts".
What is going to happen to Colbert schtick when Obama wins the presidency and both house are overwhelmingly in democrats control? Hopefully... the show is cancelled. It was funny for a while, but he's quickly becoming a parody of himself.
Face it. They say the gene splicing will be untraceable so it will be a moot point to attempt to screen athletes. It will infiltrate all sports... not just the Olympics. And if this is the case, then shouldn't droids be allowed to compete?

In my experience, any ksh script would run under bash. It was my impression that bash was a catch-all, taking the better ideas from Korn and Bourne.
I learned COBOL in college 20 years ago. I hated it and immediately knew COBOL, TSO, JCL, CICS was not for me. The user was shielded from the complexities of the system, whereas Unix and 'C'... everything was there to learn and discover. No 2-inch IBM manuals to sift through.
Now I work at a place w/ the dinosaur and DB2/COBOL on the backend and I am forced to fix the crap COBOL code written by folks who are long retired. And it sucks... big time. And why these 50-something COBOL programmers think they are hot stuff is beyond me. COBOL is EASY compared to C/C++ or even Java/C#.
Toyota has an engine plant in WV, which used to be a very pro-union state. The UAW attempted to get into the plant and the vote went against them. Toyota had a great sign outside the facility:
AOL users jumping in was strike 1... spammers was strike 2... and that was all it took for me to take my ramblings elsewhere. I think its been dead for most people since the 90s.
We hired this company, who $3mill later gave us a wireframe mocked up in Photoshop of what the UI should look like. The execs LOVED IT. One problem... the tools which had already been decided on and purchased couldn't produce anything that looked remotely like the mocked up UI. Guess who got blamed? Management? No. Developers? Yes. Because they couldn't produce a UI that looked as "cool" as the wireframe.
The only thing different I saw was that Wesabe has no QA staff and lets its users and CEO do the testing. What the article didn't mention was this was probably due to lack of financing to actually hire a SQ team rather than preferring to run a software company w/o QA.
Every software company I have worked for... if one or two people were hit by a bus... the company would be out-of-business. Management knew this... fellow developers knew it. Its a commonplace thing. Engineers take the work so *personally*. "No one can touch that code but me... " blah... blah. Ånd the stupid management goes along w/ these primadonna's. Of course... if they demanded more money... they'd be gone in a NY minute.
Exactly... and the morons didn't even read the article, for if they had... they would realize the utilities have already made the changes due to a court settlement. AEP has invested over a billion dollars in retrofitting their coal fired power plants to prevent interstate pollutants.
Oh... and what about the Democrat's shady history? You know... the party that SUPPORTED SLAVERY??? Can't live that one down, can you?

Lemme guess.... Pune?
William Jenning Bryan... a Democrat. Strong supporter of prohibition, fought darwinism and was a racist.
Taft... a Republican. And the Republican Party of 1906 REMEMBERED ITS ROOTS! The party of the Abolitionists.
I wish the Republican's would acknowledge their heritage. The heritage of abolition and the abolishment of slavery. They should be proud of Lincoln!
I guess this is one 'disaster' Lehman Bros couldn't failover?
Google better bot-up its legal team.

Actually, the guy made a huge investment in land to build those wind turbines. So... he is simply acting out of self-interest. Move on.
