    I haven't so far. I lost nothing. Nothing. I keep reading this from soo many people but it has not affected me one bit. As a matter of fact every persone I show OpenOffice.org to converts.

    No man. What I'm saying is that it is limited in just what MS want's you to use. It's funny that it can play Windows Media but nothing else. It's feels like a fully equiped car which has been modified to do less.

    XP thats the system which comes with nothing on it. Cool...NOT I used an new XP the other day and I was disapointed. Trying to play an mpeg on it required me to jump through so many hoops. That stupid anoying yellow box that pops up everytime you trying to find a file.


    XP NOT.


    I don't need to deal with it I avoid it!

    instituted "via proxy only" outbound for port 80, and no more problems.


    Correct me if I'm wrong but your proxy would not help since the marketing director would be authorised, and any traffict using his system as a gateway would be seen as authorised by him. Granted he could not use port 25 but the marketing director needs to send mail and they would find which system he is using by scanning.


    Having all ports open should not be your default installation but sometimes PHB don't know their a$$ from.....and make you setup stupid solutions which are unmanageable. /rant

    Gimp's interface would be broken if they would revert it to the limiting interface of Photoshop on Windows.


    Developers are listening. They do not wish to limit it by tying the tool bars to one window.

    They are accounts. Nothing more. Nothing less. All the stores have them.


    UPS may not ask for your signature as the service station no longer asks me to sign when I fill up at the pump. I can still refuse the charge and I will not have to pay. You can still refuse the charge and you will not pay. Read your cardholder agreement. Also try to read a merchants agreement. They reserve the right to cancel the account.


    There is nothing new to one click. It's just a credit account.

    Unfortunately you always sign a slip. If it's not on the site it's with UPS, FEDEX or whoever delivers the merchandise to your door. If you did not sign for it then you do not have to pay. One click is the plastic card the legal obligation to pay is still your signature.

    If they are considering raising a tax to stop the porn, why would the small ISP not be able to afford the servers?


    At 7$ a pop even a small ISP would be able to lease the equipment to setup a content filtering system.


    While we are on the tax subject, why not charge plumbers also. There are a lot of children who get hurt playing with water. Is this not a concern?

    This is just a false "peace of mind." If the child is safe then the tag is accurate. A child who gets abducted will most likely have the tag ripped from him/her.


    If you care about your children do not expect technology to keep them safe. Not yet anyway. We need to change our mindset. There are some situations where there is no room for error.

    This has to do with enforcement. If the police started upholding the law then the pedestrian would not be in danger.


    The problem you describe has more to do with society than security. The way our cities have evolved it will lead to noise and pollution. This 9 to 5 attitude makes it impossible for public transit to be success full. We have to extend traffic hours and reduce the concentration of business.

    Nice rant, but where does the consumer fit in?


    What I am having a very hard time understanding is when did the consumer stop owning the products he/she has purchased?


    If I cannot make changes to the product then write on the box in bold "YOU WILL NOT OWN THIS PRODUCT AFTER PURCHASE. IT WILL REMAIN THE PROPERTY OF ..." Since when have we the consumer allowed this to happen? If you wish that I respect your license write it on the box so I do not waste my time purchasing your product. Before you know it painters will own your house and you will license to live in it.

    The only files in which I have had trouble with are MS files and that even between MS applications. Once I started using open standards I never looked back. I can now use any OS I choose and I still have access to my files, I do not wait for MS to port the app. I am free of Windows and it feels great.


    Now if your document falls apart on everything but Windows, I guess that is something you choose to live with.


    Legitimate? Whatever makes you feel good.....

    You did not read what I wrote or you did not get the math. If the Bank would charge you 10% to get a car loan then their 0% is at least 11%. Do you think that they are so stupid. They marked up the price so they can offer 0%. The cost is allready in the vehicle. You need to negotiate with your own bank and compare. The dealer always gets CASH when you finance and the dealer is encouraged to help you find financing elseware.


    I did not tell you to sell your investments. What I ended up getting is a discount of almost 20%. YMMV but if you negotiate you will get better than their 0%.

    The risk is based on the unit and not how many were sold. If you own a unit the risk is extreeeeeeem. Not only can someone redirect to the inside, they can use it as a proxy from the WAN. Oh the trouble they can cause.

    If you take the 0% that the dealer is offering then you are paying prime +1. What you should be doing is asking the dealer what discount he would give you to walk out with the car on a cash basis. You will be very surprised what the "discount" is.


    The idiot will take the 0%. The smart person will negotiate. I purcased a car two weeks ago and if I calculate it I got -15% financing based on the original monthly payments. For the same term I'm paying 15% less than the 0% which the dealer was offering.


    Always look at your options....

    When I can go and replace my broken CD with a nominal fee in the same way that I replace a lost drivers license then I'll agree. It is licensed. Otherwise speak for yourself.
