  1. Re:It's a Mature game +18 why warn parents? on GTA Sex Game Debate Intensifies · · Score: 1

Just a correction, an M rating is for 17 and older. AO (Adults Only) rating is the 18+ rating.

GTA:SA was rated M. If the hacked material would have been in game from the begining it would have gotten an AO rating (and subsiquently not sold many places). I believe the issues on the table are more about if R* knew this was in the code when they released it, whether they should have told the ERSB about it if they knew and whether the ERSB should even rate something based on material that isn't playable without hacking the software. Lots of weird legal questions there.

Then Nintendo is still pretty successful. It made more profit than Sony did during the 32/64 bit gen, and it's not far away from Sony in profits this gen (given how far behind it is in market share). Nintendo is a profit master, always have been.

  7. Re:correct on Google Web Accelerator · · Score: 1

I'm a little scared by this given its a Windows only thing ATM. Pages viewed pertaining to computers will tend to be very Windows centric (even more than they really are) given the fact that you can't run this on a Mac or Linux box.

It reminds me of an old script you could add to your website way back when that would do stats for you (and the company aggrigated all the data), but the application to do this was Windows only. Usually a person making thier own site hits it quite a bit, and this artificially inflated the rankings of how many people online use IE.

If they're going to use it to increase relavance, it'd be nice if they included the entire computer universe.

  9. Re:It Will Be Interesting... on World of Warcraft Honor System Live · · Score: 1

While the honor system MIGHT curb the rampant "problem" that is ganking (I don't see it as a problem, it's a pvp server, I deal with it) I think it will definitely escalate the desire for Horde and Alliance to kill each other, and make it more difficult to complete quests in contested areas.

That's the entire point. If you're not 60, be prepared to be ganked early and often. The entire game is now PVP, especially since Battlegrounds isn't in the game yet. If you need to level up yet, good luck, it just became 1000x harder.

In a way, that's the way the game is supposed to be. The Alliance and Horde are at war. It is your JOB to kill the opposition when you see them. The patch creates incentive for people to do so, where they really weren't before.

It also encourages grouping, which is supposed to be an integral part of MMO's anyway. Expect to see large groups wandering around from place to place, for protection, or for raids. The world will be very different from here on out, be prepared.

  14. It's True on Japanese DS Game Substantially Different Than US? · · Score: 4, Informative

In the Japanese version there is "download play" with a single cart (so only one person needs to have the game and the rest of the people download a copy to their DS to play along in multi-play). Whereas with the US version each player needs their own copy of the game to join into a multi-play session.

The Japanese version also includes Dristone Mode, which isn't in the US version either (it's a modified version of single player with slightly different rules). Given that DS games are region-free, if anyone is seriously interested in the game, it might be better to import it.

I did a similar thing many years ago, and created a sort of collage of glitch art with game ROMs. Instead of taking pictures of corrupt ROMs I took pictures of arcade games boot up sequences, usually during the ROM flush. A lot of old arcade games had this and it gave the weirdest looking garbage on screen before the game would load the title screen. I went through hundreds of games in MAME to find some good ones. Most of the backgrounds were black, so I made black transparent in all of them an then layered them on top of each other randomly. You can see the results here:

Just click the page to get a new ROM boot collage. I also have a version that annimates randomly and alternating intervals which gives a nice psychodelic effect, but is a bit slow to do online.

Think about it, it's simply a list of TV shows with a short description of them and what time they're on, not unlike a news link with a short description of what it is. Surely if a TV guide can make money, Google News can too. Anyone know the laws surrounding that?

I don't really fault retailers that much, since this is a budget title, and most of the fever over the game has been decidedly word of mouth as there hasn't been a big promotional campaign for the title.

With that said, this is one of the most unique and fresh titles I've played in years. You'd do yourself a huge favor to get it...if you can find a copy.
