The dev kits they saw were old. According to Reggie Fils-Aime (Nintendo VP of Sales) there have been 3 different revisions of the Rev dev kit so far. They are:
1) A GameCube console with a wired Revolution controller attached 2) Similar to the above, but with a few minor tweaks, and boosted CPU power 3) Wireless controllers, more complete hardware
A fourth dev kit is expected soon that will be 90-95% of the finished product. So whatever they saw, if it had wired controllers, it's already out of date.
"I bought gold last week. You're reading the Business section, so that may not sound unusual. However, the purchase wasn't for my investment portfolio. And I'm not talking about real gold, either. But I did plunk down $60 of cold, hard cash in return for 500 virtual gold pieces for World of Warcraft, Blizzard's best-selling massively multiplayer online (MMO) adventure game."
Given that you can get 1000 gold for less than $60 now in WoW, I'd say he didn't make a very good investment. I'd hate to see his real portfolio.
How much time did your star programmer spend learning his skills? I'd assume quite a bit. In WoW you spend massive amounts of time getting gear so you can kill off mobs quickly and effectively. In the real world you spend massive amounts of time learning a skill so you can tackle your job quickly and effectively. In my opinion the OP is looking at it from the wrong way.
MS has wanted to buy Nintendo since before the Xbox. Gates has said numerous times that if Nintendo were up for a buyout, MS would be the first to put up the cash for it. Of course, Nintendo has kept saying they're not for sale.
Cisco can want to buy Nintendo, but I think they're up against the same thing that MS is, Nintendo doesn't want to sell to anyone.
If the comment is not about the new motherboard chipset, that comment at least should not be modded 'insightful', and in many cases, ought to be modded offtopic of flamebait.
Instead of letting the user link to a website of theirs on the front page, just have that link instead go to their user profile on slashdot. From there people can do several things:
-Visit their website listed in their profile -Read their journal -Friend or Foe them -Potentially see all stories they've submitted (if you add that feature) -Etc
Personally I think this is a better solution because it allows slashdot to push itself and the community aspect of the site and not just some other website the user linked to in the story submission. The original functionality is still there in their profile (a link to the users website), but also a lot more info about the person submitting.
Of course, linking to the users profile should be opt-in. Win-win situation in my book.
If GI took a slant towards one publisher or another, then other publishers might decide not to give GameStop the volume price discounts that, say, Best Buy would get.
Ok, so what if they rate a mediocre game well, to sell more units in their stores? I'm not saying their taking money for cover stories, but it's not like they don't have something to gain from bias in their reporting. They most certainly do.
That's all that I can think of right off the top of my head
- The Reload button randomly disappearing on occasion.
- When I switch from one app to FF by clicking on the FF window, if I click into a text area (like the one I'm typing in now) the text area does not have focus. This pains me to no end because if I copy something from another window and then click on the FF window, I have to basically click the textarea twice in order to copy the contents into it. Bah.
Yeah, they have a ways to go with the OS X support.
They're damaging Nintendo (a pure games company) - do you really think Nintendo were or are able to compete? If not, then how is this not anti-competitive? And is this behaviour good for gamers in any case?
Given Nintendo's financial statements, I'd say yes. They're raking in almost as much profit as Sony while selling less than half the consoles. MS may be damaging Nintendo's mindshare, but Nintendo still makes profits like no other (and they have to, gaming is all they have, like you said).
This is why I use a whitelist. I was getting a lot of Porn spam bots IMing me. At first I would just put thier names into my Blocked list, but they make what seems like infinite number of accounts (like Ami893819), so I kept getting new ones. I got sick of it and now use whitelists instead. So if you want to IM me, you need to ask me to add you to my whitelist. No more IM spam.
You don't need to hold your arm out. Everyone that's tried it has said you can put your hand in your lap or on the arm of your sofa and just move your wrist around to do what you need. Similar to how much you move your mouse on your computer to move the cursor on screen. Shouldn't be tiring at all.

Re: Targeting of Jack Thompson for Criminal Harassment by "Gamers"
Dear Mr. Bookman and All Governors of The Florida Bar:
As you know, eighteen years ago I commenced efforts against the entertainment industry's illegal distribution of adult entertainment to minors. That fledgling effort resulted in the first decency fines ever levied by the FCC.
The broadcasters struck back with Bar complaints. One happy result of that is that The Bar's insurance carrier had to pay me money damages for The Bar's having taken the bait offered by the SLAPP bar complainants. SLAPP is the acronym for "strategic litigation against public participation." Filing such a complaint violates certain federal civil rights statutes and state laws as well.
As you also know, the Philadelphia law firm of Blank Rome, which is lead lawyer and chief lobbyist registered in the US House of Representatives and in the US Senate for Take-Two Interactive, has chosen to use the SLAPP approach in our wrongful death case in Alabama by asking the Alabama state judge to kick me off that case because 1) I have been so effective in telling the American people about the reckless activity of their clients, Take-Two and Sony, through 60 Minutes and Reader's Digest that they can't now get a "fair trial," and 2) I have a "colorful history" of pornographers filing SLAPP bar complaints against me, which indicates I am unfit to practice law.
Interesting logic, but remember: this is Blank Rome talking. Blank Rome has a very long history of "opposition research" through partners such as "Barbara Comstock," who was called by the Washington Post a "one-woman wrecking crew" for her brilliance in character assassination on behalf of her clients.
Blank Rome's Comstock is the US Congressman Dan Burton staffer who was doing his "work" for him when he was clandestinely keeping a mistress on his federal payroll staff in violation of federal law.
Blank Rome also has been recently caught up in the scandal of securing Department of Homeland Security contracts for its clients allegedly because of its massive campaign contributions to former DHS Secretary Tom Ridge, Bush-Cheney, and the RNC. This has been covered in the mainstream media. Blank Rome is clearly the most powerful law firm, right now, in America, because of its tight personal and financial relationships with Jeb and George Bush. Blank Rome likes to make stuff up to run over people who are in the way of their clients. Pretty standard stuff, really. But don't you love the fact that a bunch of "family values" Republican loyalists to George Bush are representing Take-Two/Rockstar and fraudulently smearing a conservative Christian Republican who has got Rockstar on the run? But this is wha the GOP has become: the lap dog for corporate America, the parents who provide the party's base be damned.
I hear today, then, from the Internet-based "enthusiast video game press" that "gamers" are going to file or have filed new SLAPP Bar complaints against me. Here's why:
An outfit in Seattle called "Think Geek" is marketing a t-shirt emblazoned across the front of which are the words "I Hate Jack Thompson." That kind of tells us where they are on the subject of me.
The parent company is an outfit called Penny Arcade. In the last several days, the folks at Think Geek provided, improperly, Penny Arcade with my email address, which had not been widely circulated (I had to get rid of the last one because of death threats and the like). Some idiot at Penny Arcade foolishly emailed me and told me, in effect, of the amusement that comes from going after me, and then he foolishly explained on the Penn
Make all the new themes and designs you want, fine with me, but you need to keep this theme for people who want it. Slashdot just wouldn't be the same if it didn't look like it does now. At least in my mind it wouldn't.
100 million+ Blu-Ray players from PS3 sales is a pretty good start to any new tech. HD-DVD just doesn't have that kind of advantage. Possible to beat it out? Sure, but that's a pretty big hill to climb.
Playstation 3 will have Blu-Ray built in. MS didn't put HD-DVD into Xbox 360, it uses standard DVD. It's basically "game over" once the PS3 is released. HD-DVD doesn't stand a chance.
I've been considering buying a Mac because the anti-virus software on my Windows laptop drives me nuts. Funny, I was under the impression that Mac's we're more virus-proof.
Mac's aren't virus-proof per se (no OS is), but as of now there aren't any known virii on OS X. All the article is saying is don't get too comfy thinking there will never be any virii on OS X, because someday there *may* be. We just haven't seen any in the past 5 years.
Compare this to Windows wich seems to have a new virus come out on it every day, and really there's little to worry about when running OS X.
The dev kits they saw were old. According to Reggie Fils-Aime (Nintendo VP of Sales) there have been 3 different revisions of the Rev dev kit so far. They are:

I see what you did there.

Seriously, why would you choose Opera over Firefox?
Why did Apple choose KHTML over Firefox? Size and cleaner code base. Perhaps Google got a peak at the Opera code base and thought something similar.
That is outlandish, because the 500MB flash memory in the Rev isn't even big enough to hold a DC game. Or at least not many of them anyway.
That's all that I can think of right off the top of my head

Mod up, most insightful post I've seen here in a long time.
Of course xbox 360 will be the early winner, it's coming out a year before PS3.

The only problem with that Gun render is that the Rev controller is actually pretty small. That'd make that gun about a foot long. :/
