Buying a New TV?

I'm also aware at the completely materialist & wasteful additude of alot of slashdotters. Some poor young SOBs SOB worked their ass off so you could have that Television which you don't need. Good to know your priorities are in order.
HAng on. He works hard, smart and long, to get a decent pay check, and decides to spend it how he wishes. What wrong with that? If he wants to burn it, thats fine, its his money. If you're getting laid off, and working too hard for too little pay, perhaps you should get a better job? Who are you to tell someone else what he should and shouldnt do? I'd ignore you for the prick you are if I wasnt in such a lazy mood drinking free beer, surfing the net, and getting paid for it.
I spent 5 minutes arguing with tech support that it made no difference I was running linux. I eventually told him I'd install windows.
5 minutes later I rang back, and said I "found" windows on another hard drive. He then started asking me what my MAC address was, and how I could have another hard drive as the address I gave him was the address my laptop net card was (I spoofed it on the router). He then told me do run winipcfg, and I had to rack my brain to remember roughly what the window looked like. He was never convinced I was running windows, constantly accusing me of running an unsupported OS (even though the problem was between the modem and the headend), and doing anything not to send a modem-refresh signal thing down the line. (The guy I phoned up a couple of months before was fine, even knowing I ran linux).
Suffice it to say, after about an hour, I finally got my refresh, and immediatly started looking up DSL providers in the area.
we've all had school here where you read and write down what the teacher has written on the blackboard/while you're listening to his lecture!
erm, no. The MOST I ever did was listen to the lecture and doodle over the printouts, most of the time I slept or read a book, and printed the notes out later...
However I learnt to sleep with my eyes open, does that count?
Companies I buy, or potentially will buy, products from (my custom)
The BBC which is a public service broadcaster (taxes)
Government sites (taxes)
Friends sites (which we do for fun)
Slashdot (I dont subscribe at the moment, but I dont block the ads, and have bought from thinkgeek)
I dont go to many sites that employ staff, I might drop a few quid to a site I really like that is struggling to pay hosting bills, but the best sites in life are free. Charge money, and I'll go elsewhere. I used to run a 2000 visits-a-day site back in 99, I did it for fun. One of the biggest sites I goto now is trektoday, with no paid-for staff. Once you start charging by the page, I'll think "Is this really worth it?", I'll stress over every click, doesnt matter if its 1 cent a page or 0.001 cents. Its akin to paying per minute, or byte, for internet access.
But no, its IMHO, more like someone sells you a TV, you watch it, then find out its stolen, so give it back and buy a new TV from a store. I doubt you'd be convicted, however the guy that sold you the TV and had knowlege of it being stolen (IBM, allegedly), could be.

I had an old LP of war of the worlds, it had a pull-out with a few artists pictures. Combined with the music and naration, it really fired my imagination. DVD's are great to vegetate out too, but if you want to fire their imagination, read them a book.
Broadcast season 5, but the DVD's (well, region 2 ones anyway), are in production seasons - theres 4 of them.
Indeed, I've got the first 6 seasons of friends on dvd, but I dont even watch the latest ones.
FYI I have had season 1, 2 and 3 for ages, god bless region 2.

A nautical mile is slightly more than a mile ( I forget the specifics), but 10 nm is roughly 11 miles.
11 miles, 2 chains, 4 rods, 6 poles, 7 cubits and half a furlong.
GTA3 was nothing more then a merger of GTA and Midtown Madness, or even before that, Carmageddon. Never heard of metroid prime.

Piracy used to carry the death penalty in the UK until a few years ago.

Cynics view: Code doesnt exist, or they are frightened of someone pointing out that the code went to Linux and SCO from a *BSD tree.
Probable view: If they show the code, it would be out of the kernel in 4 hours, and re-written in a day, their case would collapse.
