So, is anyone else getting tired of these Slashvertisement product announcements on the /. front page? Geez, go to Digg.com [digg.com] for all the up to the minute tech news that you're missing if you only stick around here (the press is already labeling it a "Slashdot killer"). --

No I'm not at all tired of the Slashvertisement as you call them. If I were I wouldn't come here.

I don't think that the majority of the people come here for "up to the minute tech news". We come for the commentary from our fellow geeks. We come to pick each others brains in hopes of exposing some new angle or insight.

I use both Linux and Windows, mostly Linux though. Windows plain boots quicker.
I wish it weren't true, but unfortunately it is. There is some work being done to speed things up, loading services in parallel instead of one after another. I believe Suse is the first major distro to implement this. I have Suse installed for testing and it boots much quicker than my normal distro kubuntu.

Once again, I'm most definitely not a Windows fanboy, I'm just stating the facts.

Yes that's right gentlemen and ladies(?). You will not be forced to carry the same laptop as everyone else. I know this is now the case. I predict that there will be several companies offering laptops of different sizes, weights, cpu's, storage space, graphic cards, etc., etc., etc.

Hard to believe but true. The future is looking so bright!

Check out Autopatcher XP from some guys over at Neowin. This is everything you need and more. They have monthly updates including all security patches and a lot of other fixes. They also include a lot of utilities and programs you may find useful. This thing is awesome for that fresh install of XP. It gets you updated to the very latest in just minutes.
Anyway, check it out it's pretty good stuff, you won't be disappointed.

It's a great utility to keep your Windows boxess up to date. It's a hefty download, but it's braindead simple to use. It's strength is bringing a freshly installed WindowsXP SP1 box up to date, but you can use it on an older install. Assuming of course you have SP1 installed already.
I heard about it on the forums at Neowin. They've done an awesome job of collecting post SP1 updates and critical fixes. They have also included some other useful utilities and programs.

I highly recommend this program to anyone that has to administer WindowsXP, especially if you have to look over more than one box.
