Damn, does it remember me the last time I spanked the monkey. Funny eh, like people will repeat the same scenes over and over again. Must be in the genes:->
I couldn't help by reading the comments, but think of this earlier story by Slashdot staff, depicting Cisco delivering the best damn support of the industry ! Way to go Cisco !
It isn't the first time Microsoft implements hooks in their software to make a competitor's product slower or misbehave on Windows.
This post for instance, explains about how Microsoft added a software loop to Windows NT 4.0 to intentionnally slowdown the OS on Cyrix processors, so as to give partner Intel a competitive edge.
GameSpot Complete, our no-compromise, no-holds-barred gaming service, will feature:
1. Complete access to all of our content
2. Unlimited high-speed downloads
3. Unlimited streaming video
4. A version of the site with no invasive ads--no banners, pop-ups, pop-unders, superstitials, prestitials, or interstitials
Hey, these are nifty features.
Let's hope they will offer more than just PayPal as their subscription service:->
Yup, you're absolutely right there appears to be a PAL version on the UK market!
I didn't know this URL, and it isn't listed prominently on the main tivo.com site either, unless I missed out something obvious ?
Now what about France, Germany, Belgium etc since I don't live in the UK...
(yes I have tried www.fr.tivo.com, www.de.tivo.com, etc.:)
Microsoft doesn't WANT to expend the time, effort, and MONEY to develop such an OS
You should find the following article from CNN MONEY interesting. It discusses a certain aspect of Microsoft balance sheet.
"No other nonfinancial firm has more liquid money at its disposal, and only a handful of banks do. It's more cash than Ford, ExxonMobil and Wal-Mart have combined, and nearly four times as much as Intel, the tech company with the next largest cash balance.
It is enough to buy the entire airline industry -- twice. Or all the gold in Fort Knox, four times over. It is enough to buy 23 space shuttles or every major professional baseball, basketball, football and hockey team in America. It is an enviable stash. Who wouldn't love to have a bank account like that?"
For a project of this magnitude, I'm actually surprised that they haven't considered DWDM solutions in place of the multiple point-to-point OC-192 links. Save trees, re-use fibre !;)
DWDM would allow a single ring to cram anywhere from 32 x to 256 x the OC-192 capacity, on a single fibre (and on expensive equipment, that goes without saying:)
All major telcos/routers companies have nice DWDM offerings already today, and much more in their labs. Links: Nortel,
Lucent,
Cisco...
Clever boy has changed his front page, so that so one can see who's hiding behing the lame article submission. But you are only a few educated guesses away from seeing it all !
Beat him and see his mp3 collection among other things, such as his selected links, etc.
Bonus: notice the links on the right side of the page ! (though you have to remove the mp3/ bit out of the URLs).

Zander to quit Sun in July (good bye, and good riddance)
Sun Linux boss quits (blah.)
...before giving-up your badge, just grab the hard-drive and run as fast as you can !
The innocent-looking devices could also be used to smuggle out confidential or sensitive information
Do the sexy new Powerbooks qualify as innocent-looking devices ? :)
Marketing people understand each other.
Sorry, couldn't resist :->

D'oh :(
Don't get me wrong here, I would love to get one of these. Too bad they don't have a PAL version available.

Some food for thought.

It is a safe assumption that hardware from the 2 above manufacturer will be well supported, since they are supporting Linux heavilly.
Last but not least, make sure to read the Howto:
