What's up with their versioning scheme? If it's beta, it should be 1.9 or 2.1

If you'd bothered to look twice, you'd see that the beta actually is versioned 1.90, aka 2.0 Beta 1.

The ONLY use for a scripting language in an email client is to spread virii or trojan horses.

Don't forget scripted MUAs also allows for easier spamming. Gather up a list of addresses from usenet, write a quick script to send out an e-mail to all of them "personally" so that it passes spam filters, and if you're clever, you can write the script so that the spam starts with personal info ("Hi, Bob Doe, blablabla..."). A guarranteed favorite if your "prospects" are the general dumb masses.

  10. SourceForge is not about SourceForge! on SourceForge Fails To Forge Source? · · Score: 4

SourceForge is a great boost to many open source projects, especially in providing CVS servers, mailing lists, web hosting, patch management, bug databases etc etc... Their service is fast and reliable, and you even get technical support from people who knows how to help.

SourceForge is probably doing more for the open source movement than any other single entity. They could change money for it and nobody would question it because their service is so great. But they don't. They could be proprietary, but instead they use only free software. And on top of all this, they even release their sourcecode for the project, as if they had to!

And then what: people complaining that "SourceForge doesn't help the open source movement because they release their source as a badly organized tarball and they didn't include my patch"! I mean, WTF! Fscking whining maggots!

SourceForge now hosts the entire KDE CVS. They gave it a dedicated box, and they don't even ask for a single mention of this in return. Think about that the next time you use KDE.

I can see why the poster would choose to be anonymous -- most trolls do!

You're seriously misinformed. Konqueror is not "one gigantic app". In fact, the executable is but a few hundred Kb. Almost *everything* in Konqueror is a component, even the file manager and the web browser if I'm not mistaken. This is the same with IE, Nautilus, Mozilla etc. This breaking-down of functionality actually facilitates debugging, not the opposite as you seem to think :-)

The study claims, as I understand it, that violent behaviour can be caused by playing computer games not because of the games themselves, but because the player doesn't understand that the game increases his affective arousal.

In other words, NN plays a game of Quake, which he thinks is fun, and after that he feels a lot of anger inside him, which he can't understand where comes from. He definitely will not blame Quake, so he finds something else to blame. Be it an innocent person, to whom he attributes his anger, and frags him. Ugh.

I'm for one is amazed at how fast the 4.0 release came. I'd expect many more 3.9 pre-releases. I fear it probably hasn't been tested as well, and it is a fact that it doesn't support all the hardware that 3.3 does.

I do hope that 4.0 is usable, and if so, perhaps new distributions may pick it up. Linux projects (with a few exceptions) have traditions of releasing software "when it's ready", no matter how much delay that means. This has given Linux it's reputation as a solid OS.
