You don't know much about poor people, do you (ok...generalizing walmarts customer base a little). They might live in a trailer, but they will own a big ass TV
First off...when I am jogging, I am burning around 150 cal, per 10 minutes. Now, traditional wisdom states to lose a pound you must burn 3500 calories. That means about 4 hours of running. That sounds like a lot, but if you think about if, if you ran for a half hour, everyday, that means you would lose a pound a week...or allow you to eat an extra 3500 calories a week. Now, for one week, does this make any difference? Not really...but if you do it for a year, that's a lot of extra calories spent. Do I think kids are fat because they don't get enough exercise? Yes. When I was a kid, the only thing to do inside was watch one of three TV stations, or, if you knew a rich kid, play atari 2600. So you went outside and ran around. Now, there is so much entertainment without moving, that they are less inclined to exercise. Are they fat because they eat too much crap? Definitely. Deep fried everything and High fructose corn syrup are a few good reasons too. Busy parents that buy takeout food instead of home cooking don't help either.
Are you sure you want to be playing with a lightsaber on your wii? What if someone comes in, records it, then posts it on the internet...boy will you look stupid
I totally agree with what you are saying...except that I am guessing GameStop doesn't get the cream of the crop from the hiring pool. I know around here, jobs that pay close to minimum wage pretty much will hire anyone. I am not saying the managers should be devoid of responsibility if their employees screw up, I just think the parent company is being a little harsh. Of course, it is mostly meant to be hyperbole, to make them look good in the publics eye, so I guess it doesn't really matter
Parents do not want to take responsibility for their kids. They would rather blame the store, for selling the kids something they shouldn't be playing. You would think a parent would look at what their kids are playing, you know, maybe show an interest in them or something, and realize that these games are not for kids.
Is the manager expected to work so closely to the employee, that they see every transaction that takes place? If so, couldn't they just use the manager to do the work, and get rid of the employee?
I would have figured sawing through a guy with a chainsaw would make it a mature title, but it does make sense that it's an expletive that pushes it over the edge. Gears does remind me of quake though, with 255 shades of brown
So that means all the energy is now useful... So given efficiency is useful work out / work in then for the above usage (which is common) incandescant bulbs provide 100% efficiency. Given the cost to produce and the polutants in the so called high efficiency bulbs is it really a good idea to switch?
Firstly, a lightbulb is not an efficient way to heat. If you must heat with electricity, you should use a dedicated heating unit. That being said, you are still better off using natural gas. Secondly, if you only need heat 80% of the time, there would be 20% of the time you don't want heat. If during this time, you actually use air conditioning to make the house more comfortable, you are working against the AC. Heating while you are trying to cool doesn't sound incredibly efficient.
I think the choice to pirate rather then buy the items can't be computed by just the expected value of a judgment against you. Even though the expected value of the song would be 2 cents (to use your example) there is also risk involved. If I was a big company, or a person who bought millions of songs, then it would work out in my favour to pirate the songs. As a small guy, I can't take the risk that I could get hit with that $20,000 fine. Sure it's unlikely that I would get caught, based on the odds, but if I did get caught, I think the risk outweighs the reward. So, maybe the expected value(of pirating the material) is a lot less then the retail price, I am paying the extra money to not have to worry about getting the big fine.
The content is catching up. Pretty much any sport you watch is in HD. I know a lot of the slashdot crowd isn't in to sports, but for those of us who are, HD Football looks so much better. Almost any new show is in HD as well. I get the movie network in hd, and now we don't rent movies any more, because that looks better then DVD...it just means we have to wait a few months more to watch the movies. The only show that I would really like to see an HD version of is Deal or No Deal...maybe not though...HD really shows peoples flaws (watch the news for good examples). Maybe ignorance is bliss.
These games, regardless of how much fun they may be to play, hold -zero- appeal to me
If they are fun, why wouldn't they hold appeal to you? I thought the idea of the wario games were pretty stupid, till I played them and found them to be pretty fun. Will they engross you...no. But that doesn't mean they aren't worth playing
As a gamer, I kind of miss the 'you can only get it on this system.'
As a gamer, I find this kind of statement asinine. I really only have the budget for one console, so I am forced to miss out on some games. I love the Gran Turismo series, but am not going to buy a PS3 just to play that when I have a perfectly good xbox 360. So I miss out on that game. To me, the console is a platform; I am not choosing an allegiance to one side or the other.
You know, when I started programming computers, I had no idea you could make money doing it. I really didn't care(of course, I was 8, and wasn't thinking about how many things I would eventually have to pay for). I also didn't think about the money when I ripped apart my toys, to see how come they worked the way they do. I was curious, and that's what excited my brain. I still take apart my toys, but they are just a lot bigger, and cost a lot more(and I wish I was better at putting them back together) I went into computer, because I actually loved working with them. I will admit, that when it came time to make a choice as to what to take in university, the hope of being gainfully employed help it win over taking music, but it would have been in the running without that. If I had been interested in money, I would have just gone into business. Funnily enough, a lot of the girls I knew in school were taking business...
Shameless plug here: Most libraries in Canada will have a broadband connection. Libraries get funding from the federal government to do so.

Ya...I was thinking it would be like Exxon saying non-gas powered cars are not suited to business users
I agree
The WiFi is what set it apart. Otherwise, there are hundreds of other mp3 players out there...why not just get them?
Not to mention that the space junk would have to be directly in front of the aircraft.
It also means, if they win, the are setting good precedence for the people who want to sue them

I will opt for choice 2. Canadian movies are great...less violence, and more sex!
I had one fail on Thursday :(
That was the first thing I thought of, then I did realize, It did say for the purpose of hunting/killing.

I look forward to blocking the kids who are telling me how much I suck!
When I was learning, we had a joystick with one button!!!

I think you no longer need Media center, as of the last dashboard update. You still do need windows though
I totally agree with you about the dev team concentrating on one system. I want the best possible product.
I just think his logic made no sense
