  1. Why do I still read these comments on Google Announces Inbox, a New Take On Email Organization · · Score: 5, Insightful

The level of naysayers, resistance to change in Slashdot is the most I have seen in forever and I have been reading Slashdot for quite a while now.
Could you please, please, try it before saying that it is just like [insert failed google product here] or [insert very successful google product that you don't like here].

I know this is quite a culture shift for Slashdot, but sometimes it's too much.

Well, you have two simple features: minimize ribbon and the quick access toolbar. If you use both of these features you have as much screen real estate as you can hope to get and allows you to put commonly used but unrelated things on the screen. Of course, you can customize it as one Anonymous Coward described in a reply to your post and define custom keyboard shortcuts. I understand people dislike the ribbon for any number of reasons except those that are not reasons at all, please review office one more time.

Anyway, you are correct when you say that it brings a different set of advantages and disadvantages, however that is La Palice worthy as (almost?) anything that is comparable does bring one different set of advantages and disadvantages.

I find it deeply amusing that while you try to make a point based on music history, you fail completely.

Radiohead are one of the greatest bands ever. They revolutionized rock music throughout these last 15 years in ways I can only compare to The Beatles and still you only remember them for a song they released in 1992.

I'm sorry but if I had mod points I could only mod you either funny or troll.

Is it a deal breaker when ALL the consoles have the same game?

Not having EA => Not buying the console
    but
Having EA =/=> Buying the console

Anyhow, as you may read in my previous post I haven't said EA was not important. I think it is, just not important #5 but important #10. This is were we may disagree, which is ok, life goes on.

  15. Re:Old and bad news on Nintendo's Next-Gen Arsenal · · Score: 1

Exactly, what I meant to say was

If a console isn't supported by EA, people won't buy the console.
But being supported by EA isn't a condition sine qua non for you to buy the console.

It's important but not important as in "Nintendo Arsenal".

  16. Old and bad news on Nintendo's Next-Gen Arsenal · · Score: 2, Interesting

This article was discussed a few days ago on Digg and the general opinion was that it was garbage. I agree with the general Digg opinion on this particular subject.

First of all, if Zelda is first does that mean that the Gamecube will receive a boost in sales as it will be released for both platforms? Games are important but the other platforms also have games, this is not a weapon as massive as others that Nintendo has.

Discarding all games we are left with three outsiders from the list:
The Wiimote, which is oddly on the last place: shouldn't it be first? The Wii is almost defined by the Wiimote, it's what makes it different.
The Virtual Console, on 6th place. Taking advantage of a huge back collection of games, the Virtual Console should be a huge plus for most hardcore gamers that miss a quick fix of old school gaming. I'm sure it's not a decisive feature for most but I would put it far above 6th place.
And the EA support, on 5th. Is this relevant? I mean, EA is important as it guarantees plenty of games per year but it has a huge downside, most games, in my opinion, are not top notch. Besides, noone buys a console because it has EA games although I'm sure many wouldn't buy a console exactly because it didn't have any mainstream, EA games. Way too high on the list, maybe 10th place?

Besides these three, there are, at least two important features of the Wii which should have made the top10.
WiiConnect24 and GCN compatibility. Nintendo finally learned that it was important to ensure a huge catalog of games in every new console right from the start. These two features help in that by making sure you'll receive demos of new games and the ability to play GCN games. These will also be joined by the Virtual Console which is part of the WiiConnect24.

Other killer features should be stuff like interoperability with the DS or support for indie developers. I, for one, would be extremely interested in developing a small fun game and selling it for 1 a copy or something through the Wii.

Conclusion: This article misses some obvious "weapons" and seems to have simply chosen 10 things wii-related and shuffled them in whatever way they seemed fit. Horrible article, Zonk should be more careful of what he posts.

I actually do some of what you preach. But point #6 intrigues me. Why shouldn't I bank online? Is it safety concerns? It's a much easier way to know how much you've got than using the bank's phone system. The way I see it now, and hoping someone could clarify me, banking online is just a matter of preference and not a big no no as the parent put it.

Mercedes - The name of the daughter. A girl's name for a car, like the grandparent stated, and NOT one of the founders'.

Virgin - Richard Branson started Virgin Records with 19. If he was, or not, a virgin, I don't know. But it would a bit strange for 19 year old with an associate (Nik Powell) would call his company Virgin because he was a virgin.
