I am not saying I'd use the Amiga for my main machine - I have Mac for that, but I just put a 66MHz 68060 Amiga 1200 tower together from almost entirely unused parts for games and demos and just messing around.
Pin compatibilities and bus interface issues would not allow it - but unless the games have self modifying code (done without proper cache clear) then they would run on it. Since the Genesis was a frozen platform using 68000 only, I am sure there is self modifying code in use!
Wow. The part in ROTK (book) where Galndalf confronts the king of the Nazgul @ the gates of Minis Tirith is one of my favorite parts. This part in the game that you cite - does it appear to be cinematically similar to the movie or is it some after-the-fact game-specific, lower quality sequence? Any other details about this particular part? Thanks.
I've always been a big UT fan. UT2K3 pretty much, as well. But HALO's physics are far more realistic. Feels much more real, in the vehicles. Better pace to them as well.
HALO is alot easier on my dual G4 800's CPU's than UT2K3 or UT2K4, as well. GeForce 4Ti. Tho UT's maps are more vibrant and texturous.
Your running Halo at ~1280x1024 or higher and it's smooth? I'd be very surprised at that. I'm not calling you a liar but I'd be astonished if you can - because everybody else moans at it's appaling framerate performance. It's possible the mac port is better than the PC port, and specifically is able to make better use of the dual CPU power (given OS X that wouldn't be too surprising). It can say certainly doesn't run 'well' above 1024x768 on any Intel based (including Athalon, Athalon64) system.
I jjust went to check. I was running 1280x800 - I have a widescreen Apple 20" Cinema display. Just for fun I hiked to the highest res - 1344x840, and I notice no difference in apparent framerate. I am not using FSAA - not supported on my nVIDIA board. Pretty high settings on all else.
I would describe framerate as "very good" and "impressive." Not sure what to say. Dual G4 800 + GF4 Ti. 133MHz system bus, AGP 4x video slot. 1.5GB RAM. Running OS X v10.3 Panther.
I've got a Dual G5 2.0 with the BTO Radeon 9800 card, attached to the 23" Cinema HD display. Running Halo on it was fun, but I had to stick to 800x600 or so to get semi-decent performance, and even then fps would drop down to like 1-2 if I died near an explosion or something. UT2004 runs at the native 1920x1200 of the display wickedly fast (never noticed the frame rate getting low enough to notice), and looks great.
Interesting. I have a dual G4 800 Mac with GeForce 4 Ti and 1.5GB RAM and a 20" Cinema display (two of them acutally) and run at the widescreen mode of 1280 or 1325 (one of the two - can't recall) and it runs very smoothly. Far smoother than UT2K3 (note: 3) at 1024x768. I have not got UT2K4 running yet.
Horrible traffic and one million more things to do on a given weekend. For instance, aside from Williamsburg which is a bit of a salvation for the area (I quite like Williamsburg - lived there for a year on my way out of NN), name two decent restaruants in the NN/Hampton area.
I lived in Newport News from age 14 to age 24. It was a long 10 years. Well...it was ok for that age, I suppose - but when I go back now, from Alexandria, VA where I live now - eeeeeghh....it's just nice to get back home to good ole northern VA.
This is the "Tandy 1000 TX". I used to have a Tandy 1000 TL, myself. There was also the original "Tandy 1000." But no model from Tandy was called the "1000 XT" - and I am referring to the name, not to the fact that it is an IBM XT class machine. You see?
Wrong. The ST had inferior graphics capabilities compared to the Amiga except for the mono 640x480 mode that was absolutely gorgeous to work with. But the other two modes were crap compared to the Amiga - 640x200, 256 colours and 320x200, 16 colours. The STE made things much, much better. I used to love my ST - I just tolerate my PC nowadays...
Corrections:
- The ST's mono mode is 640x400 in 2-bit (b&w) - Amiga's standard modes were: 320x200 32-clr, 640x200 16-clr, 640x400 16-clr (laced). Of course there was HAM mode, EHB (half-brite), etc.
For around the first 100 years after the settlers came to America, all beer was pumpkin beer. It wasn't called "pumpkin beer" as though it were a novel thing, as all beer was made from pumpkins as it was what was available. Interesting, little known fact.
Booooooo!!! Good lord.
