I have the HL-L2300D or whatever the equivalent was from 8 years ago. I've run ~1500 pages of boarding passes, tickets, tax forms and whatnot through it. haul it out of the closet, plug it in to any computer, and it will have drivers, it will print what you want and not bother you.
I suspect it will last forever. Oh, and it was $45 when I bought it. keep an eye out for sales.
WTF is with the alt-right hatchet job? I know Slashdot has a libertarian slant but this is not news for nerds or stuff that matters, this is just bullshit.
I live in california. either diesel Golf or e-golf.
Got the e-golf and never looking back. instant torque, full tank every day, and after tax rebates/ fuel/bridge/maintenance savings, the car is costing us $30-50/mo. Less than my cell phone for a car. Also have a nice big truck for weekends/road trips. but it's painful to drive an ICE after driving an electric. the power delivery is just so much better in the e-golf it's laughable.
I had two competing offers during my last job hunt. one was about 20% less than the other, but had an hour less commute a day, and an opportunity to work in gaming vs. finance.
I spoke with a lot of friends/family on this issue and they all said the same thing: "How much do you need?" if they're both offering that, then go with the most fun.
Mac computers are the closest thing to Linux you're going to get off the shelf.
If you're really smart, you want as little friction between you and doing what you want as possible. get a Imac with a 27" screen, shipped to your door and working out of the box.
That said, I hate the OSX UI, but if you're really looking for a powerful command line out of the box, OSx is the way to go.
Agreed completely. My iphone data usage is ~300 MB/mo. I use netflix app daily. My wifes is closer to 3 GB/mo. she just browses the web.
the reason? I have wifi on at home and at work. she doesn't know what wifi is. the phone either works or it doesn't for her. I tried explaining that LOLCATS will load faster if she goes on the wifi, but if it involves doing ANYTHING, pressing a single button, she won't do it.
I mean, I want my service to work, because it's not overloaded all the time, and this fixes that problem without a. Hard caps b. overages.
seems to me, saying you'll get 3g speeds for the first 2gb/mo, and edge speeds after that is the best way to solve the problem. SO long as it's publicized. if you don't like it, too bad, I'm tired of shitty service because some folks use their hacked Iphones to download torrents all day.
that said, if the service still sucks, or the cap it too low, leave.
I've got the same problem with my gmail account. most I just delete silently. I seem to get a lot of grandparents email kids, to them I reply kindly that they have the wrong person, and to call their grandkids and request the address again.
some groups don't get it. I was in a group email for a dorm, and setup a filter to reply all when sent email from their college with " I don't go to your school, never have, I've asked repeatedly to be removed from this mailing list, you're all idiots" AFIAK, they got several dozen of these reply spams before they figured out how to remove me from their mailing list. sucks for them, easy enough for me.;-)
and this makes sense. When they were getting acquired they were dumping tons of cash into looking like the hot shit for cisco, but I think they all knew the concept would get eaten alive by convergence. The mood I felt was, lets sell this to Cisco before they catch on that this market is doomed.
Total Bullshit. they estimate 5 years to pay back, based on 20,000 KM year. Total for 5 years is 63,000 miles. The warranty on hybrid components here in California is 150,000 Miles. Assuming you drive the car until they stop repairing it for free, you'll get a payback that is 2.3 times great than their reporting.
Matrix Vs. Prius is 16,800 and 12,800 to maintain over 63,000 miles, to hit 150,00 miles, multiply by 2.3, you get 38,640 for the matrix, 29,440 for the Prius, which is still at this point under warranty
You've saved $9,200 in fuel over the warranty period MSRP for Matrix is 16,700 base MSRP for Prius is 21,400 base total savings is Matrix Base cost+Extra fuel cost-Prius base cost= $4500 Not a lot, but Nothing to scoff at either, plus, the Prius has better resale value, more standard options than the Matrix, is bigger, safer, and better rated.
This is going to generate a lot of bad press for Activision. More than just gamers deciding not to buy their games, Game developers aren't going to want to do business with a company that pulls the rug out from under people. It's a small world out there.
I bought my first monitor from Weird stuff. it was vga, but had a 2 row EGA connector and it took forever to make an adapter cable, as apparently the monitor was for some Japanese standard. the screen would turn brown ever so often and I had to hit it as hard as I could on the left side to set it straight again.
but the truly weird stuff i've found there? a CO2 cutting laser, Used glass wafer masks left over from some fab(wouldn't these be secret?) and a Degauss machine so strong it ripped the IC's off hard drives.
They work in the US too. I live in the suburbs, I ride my bike up to my house, then into the yard, then in the back door, then stop in the bedroom and plug it in. I have a higher end model(1500w motor) and I commute 5 miles each way to San Francisco daily. the bike is faster than driving, and I've never ran out of juice, and I can tell down to the mile when I'll run out due to the very accurate power meter. I"m sure the bike would be stolen in 5 minutes were I ever to leave it outside, but it spends the day in my office and night in my bedroom.
I believe the trick with E-bikes is that everyone may or may not be able to use one, depending on their individual circumstances. You need: 1. A place to park it safely indoors at night 2. a place to park at your destination 3. no stairs 4. less than 10 miles each way of commute 5. willingness to deal with weather and assholes and danger. That all said, I'll be donning helmet, rain gear, and gloves tomorrow morning.
I did a bad thing and got an Iphone and left T-Moble and the smartphone I got free a year prior, since T-Mobile didn't get service in my new home. I called them to cancel, expecting to get a 200$ termination fee, but when I told them why I was canceling, they waived the fee due to my address not being in their coverage area. all they asked was I send them a copy of a bill that shows my name at that address.
Thanks to this treatment, I'll be moving back to T-mobile when/if they ever get 3g coverage in my area. It seems to me that burning your customers on the way out is a sure way to ensure they NEVER come back.
if your thinking about getting one let me say... do it! I got 2 when they first came out, they work great. 1 is now a linux router (w/usb 10/100 ethernet) and the other is currently running windows XP. works great. I'd go back to the Linux that came with it, as its a great web browser, but oddly enough it boots really fast with winxp, and my t-mobile shadow is a modem in XP. so I've got a laptop with internet that I can fit in my pocket. why bother with 802.11n, bluetooth, gps... phone does gps, usb cable to phone, and 11g is plenty for that little thing to do web browsing.
This is good news. but now I'm going to have to figure out those crazy config scripts. ClarkConnect has a really nice front end for administering it. But I'll definately take a look, as Backula is the perfect replacement for Backup exec, and more stable as far as I can tell.
We do small business consulting and when a client can't afford backup exec or retrospect(neither of which I like) I just make a old box a ClarkConnect Linux box and run backups via Bacula. CC has a web interface for backups, and similar functionality to backup exec, with clients for storage, and backup clients. I.e. you can run Bacula client on a windows machine and then backup that machine remotely without sharing its files, and you can run a backup file server on your windows machine without it being a smb share. I suppose you could get this functionality with any version of Linux, but I like that the end users have a web interface, should they need it. plus I'm not the worlds best Linux guy, and it is super simple to setup. oh, bacula supports most tape drives, but I've never really tried it with them, external hard drives are way cheaper, and easier to use than tape these days. if you don't have a spare machine around, setup vmware server and just run a virtual linux box. sounds a little odd, but it works great.
I already get all my tv from the web. perfect quality, ads already removed, about an hour after they air. I wouldn't pay a dime for it either. if this makes the networks go belly up, so be it, i don't really like tv that much anyway. people will always pay to go to a theater, so the idea of telling a story with video is in no way endangered, so screw the networks, who needs their garbage anyway?
and it weigh's over 20 LBS and has no battery, I would call a tadpole a "laptop form factor computer", kinda like how kraft has to call that stuff it makes "processed cheese food"
I don't know about your pricing ideas, I had 10Mbps(fiber to the home) each way in Sacremento for a while for around 50 bucks a month, the trick was, I could only transfer 5 gigs each way a month. if that were a server, it would have to average 30kbits/s or go overboard and then pay 10$ a gig thereafter. i would imagine they're going to set up some sort of limit like that.
have nothing to do with the schools software... at all. they gave you hardware, so use it. point a wifi antenna or 2 at the school, and boot from a linux liveCD and bypass their software entirely. I don't think they can sue you for using hardware they gave you, can they? this is coming from a guy who had to blackmail his principal after computer troubles at his old highschool oh so long ago. ( btw, if you do break their security, take copy's of everything, you might need them later!)
one more for blacksmithing, i took a class at the local community college, and rented all the books at the library, and now have my own forge. its pretty cheap to setup. harbor freight has usable anvils for under 5o bucks, and the forge itself is propane mixed with air tossed into a box made of refractory brick or something similar. carefull, its HOT!!!!

it would increase jobs, republican jobs. they'll lay off the redundant "little people" and hire more executives to manage the larger company.

conversely though, all game programmers Love to game. I work at a game studio and there is only 1 person at the company who isn't an avid gamer.

essentially the story boils down to:
"Americans still stupid"
mind you I'm an American, but i don't count.
