  1. Should have tested it as soon as he installed it.. on Vonage Puts VoIP 911 Caller on Hold · · Score: 0

When I signed up for Packet8 (had Vonage awhile back.. had horid echos on all calls.. they blamed my phone...but on regular lines, no echo on the same phone), they actually recommended that once I had the E911 service set, to schedule a test call w/ 911, to make sure it works, BEFORE we need it (I'm also friends w/ the 911 Dispatch manager, who also wanted to see how Packet8 handled it). Thats common sense. I've even done that with my Cell just to make sure it works properly.

The FCC did mandate that all VOIP providers had until like September 31st or something around there to have 100% E911 coverage, and, when I was reviewing VoIP providers, and their 911 coverage (based on subscriber base), Packet8 scored the highest at 93%.

So yes, he probably could sue Vonage, since they are in violation of FCC regulations on VoIP, but he also should have made sure BEFORE hand that it infact would route to a 911 center, on the actual 911 lines, instead of going to the non-emergency number at the dispatch center. Vonage, and other VoIP providers who do not have E911 coverage generally will route to the non-emergency number, and that number may be busy, may not get answered after hours, or will put you on hold ("thank you for calling Bob County 911, please hold*click*"). The only way to be sure you're going to get proper 911 response is if you talk to a real 911 dispatcher, not a receptionist who will then have to transfer your call to a 911 dispatcher, whom you will then have to tell your address to.

  4. It's Crap on Smart Mouse with E-Mail and IM Alerts · · Score: 0

I had this mouse for about 4 hours. Problems are as follows:
    1. NO IMAP SUPPORT. It will work ONLY with Outlook or Outlook Express, using POP3. I think most folk that read Slashdot probably dont use Outlook (Express), and hopefully use IMAP4, making this feature useless.

    2. IM Support sucks.. It will only work with yahoo messenger, MSN messenger, or AIM. It wont work with trillian, gaim, etc. I personally dont want to have 4-5 messengers running, with their extra features I never use, using a nice 150meg of ram.

If you buy it for the IM and Email Lights/buttons, you'll be disappointed bigtime. If you just want a regular laser mouse, and dont care about the buttons, you can save $20 and get a regular 3 button laser mouse.

  8. Strattera on Neural Feedback Training as Therapy for ADHD? · · Score: 1

I would like to echo the previous suggestion about Strattera... My 6yr old is on it... and has had dramatic improvement in school... and I'm on it myself, with same improvement (not in school though!). It's not a stimulant, so the side effects that the others have (Ritalin, Dexadrin, etc..all speed basicly) should not occur. Another perk with it is... a doctor can give out samples... which they could not do with stimulants.

  9. Strattera on Working with ADHD? · · Score: 1

I am ADD... my son is ADHD... he started on Strattera last month.. I just started it today. Now, while I do tech support, and ADD does somewhat help, I decided to try Strattera. It is, IMHO, a LOT better than Ritalin. Ritalin is a controled substance... 2 or 3 steps away from street speed. It's an amphetamine. Doctors can not give out free samples, nor can they call in perscriptions. Strattera is a norepinephrine reuptake inhibitor. It is really brand new.. FDA approved for ADD/ADHD in February. From what I've seen (both in myself today, and my son), it works quite well. And unlike Amphetamines, it gets better over time... the Amphetamines tend to have highs and lows... you'll be fine for a few hours, then not, then be fine again... over time, with strattera, you'll get progressively less ADH.

No, I dont work for the company.. but their URL is: www.strattera.com

It wouldnt fix everything, as the inital request would be made, but the info from the webserver would be stopped going back out (basicly)

I work at an ISP that needed a content filter for a customer... what we wound up getting claimed to be a HIPAA compliant firewall/gateway. The company is eSoft. The biggest drawback to it is the cost... we had just a 25 user license, and 25 user content filtering... it's time to renew the license... and they want like $1500... and thats for only 25 people. But it WORKS, and it fairly simple to setup... and if you dont need filtering like that, it shouldnt be too pricy.
