  1. Re:Cost to Recharge? on MIT Electric Car May Outperform Rival Gas Models · · Score: 1

Yes, I did think about it. I have never seen any $ figures on the cost difference, and generally the 'green' treehugger types who push this sort of agenda only care about the 'green' and not at all about the '$'. One would think that if was really cheaper a lot of someones would be blaring cost comparison/savings figures loud and often to get the public behind it in a big way...and no one is.

Generally things that are 'better for you' seem to cost more, and for no good reason, either. Go to the grocery store. Anything that is 'healthy' or 'diet' or 'low ' is almost always more '$' than the 'regular' same item.

  2. Cost to Recharge? on MIT Electric Car May Outperform Rival Gas Models · · Score: 0, Flamebait

What is the cost to fully recharge an electric car? I could give a crap about 'green' if it's going to cost me more to drive than good old gas. I'd rather pay for gas than have my electric bill go through the roof.

  3. Re:Ummmm on GM Cornered Into Defending the Volt · · Score: 0

The answer i keep looking for, and never seeing is - what will my electric car do to my electric bill? I'd much rather pay double for gas than triple for electricity. I can see the electric companies drooling over this now.

Basically, if its going to cost me more money than what I already spend, I don't want it. Since I never hear about its going to save me money, or cost no more, I can (probably) safely assume that its going to cost me a lot more.

Does anyone know how often the maps get updated, or if ever? I started building my new home over a year ago, and have been living in it 7 months now, but the maps of the entire area are still obviously several years old. I know this because there are several entire neighborhoods that have been built up over the last 5 years that are not there either. This is on both Google maps and earth.

    Both ways are equally bad.

The USA is made up of 50 STATES, not 80 million people. People live in a STATE. What matters is that each STATE has an equal stake in the matter. There should be exactly 50 electoral votes, 1 per state. You should have to get the majority in at least 26 states to win the election. The other 48 states should not have to suffer the consequenses because of the idiocy of a bunch of people in NY and CA, just because all the lunatics tend to gather in those 2 places, to use an over-simplistic example.

This is all part of the age old argument that gave us both population-based representatives and state based senators.

I really think there were 2 basic problems. I live in the midwest, and I have NEVER seen them on a commercial as far as advertising goes... As a matter of fact, I had never even heard of them until I saw them mentioned here on /. a couple of years or so ago. Since then I began 'looking' for them in the stores I frequent. I actually saw one in a store...once. I belive it was at Best Buy, and it was kind of tucked away on a bottom shelf at/near the PSX/XBox/Gamecube section. My son has never mentioned them to me either, which leads me to believe that there has been little or no advertising for them on the various kids channels either.

Bottom line, lots of advertising (on TV especially), and put them prominently on the shelf in the Lego/Bionicle section at WAL-MART, and they may well have succeeded!
