    I can't imagine that being easy, considering the air pressure from outside and inside the house. But if "vacuum" window insulation has been done before with plain clear windows, by all means, show me.

    LCD: Liquid Crystal Display.
    Also, most (all?) LCD monitors are lit by fluorescent tubes.

    INVENTORS -- On Nov. 15 Earl Warrick, 91, who was credited as one of the inventors of Silly Putty, died at his home in Loma Linda, CA. He was a Dow Corning research scientist for 33 years.

    Sad. I'm sure everyone in the Slashdot community will miss him - even if you didn't enjoy his work, there's no denying his contributions to popular culture. Truly an American icon.

    In Clarke's 3001 he writes about a huge structure that circles the entire Earth at geosynchronous orbit. A few towers, several kilometers wide, attach Earth to the ring.
