I just wanted to know, WHY on earth MS would use the directory name 'Program Files' when so often installers and path names, etc. can only work with the 8.3 format and end up calling it 'PROGRA~1'. Plus, the space in the file path screws up some apps... just WTF were they thinking? Why not call it 'Applications'? At least that abbreviates to 'APPLIC~1' which sounds slightly less silly
He's looking a whole 20 seconds into the future. I'm hoping computer interaction as we know it is redefined, and I dont mean with wearing a clunky VR helmet and wearing a PowerGlove. Those are 80s expectations of future computing for the 90s. We want ubiquitous computing! Neural Interaction! Access information and communicate anywhere as naturally as you talk or think.
I think that, AI and - maybe later on - mind uploads are a better future that silly 3D desktops (been there, done that)
I second that! Python is my language of choice, and wxPython (with PythonCard or without) my preferred GUI API.
Win32 and really almost any other C/C++ API (except maybe BeOS' app API) leaves a bad taste in my mouth. Too much manual mem management, and too many other low-level things that distract from what I actually WANT to do! (app-specific logic). Objective-C (except for the syntax) gets it about half right, but it still has its problems.
Graphics in Java (AWT and/or Swing) is unacceptably slow. Not having a stndard cross-platform back-end like wxWindows (or even - gag - Tk), as native-code libs, is one of the areas where Java really dropped the ball.
That.NET's GUI framework is just a frontend to Win32 is kind of cool (for speed and a stanadrd look-n-feel) but it's very much tied to Win32, and I'm guessing will be a beast to port to other platforms.
Plus, I just LOVE the Python syntax and all the little other jems that make programming with it a joy - like how powerful dicts and lists and tuples are, how easy threading is... I could go on and on. Python has been my lang of choice for longer than any other language (I've only known C and C++ longer out of ignorance of other choices)
Have you noticed that on star trek, the Borg shields cannot deflect normal bullets? (see 'star trek: first contact') Then WHY, oh WHY, wouldn't the Federation start making projectile weapons for fighting the Borg? Dumbasses... =P
Crap man, did you have like the first newton iteration? Because I have a 130, and while its a little laggy for HWR, its VERY good about recognizing my handwriting, which can go from bad to worse at any time. A friend has a 2000 or 2100 (can't remember which) and he's working on a port of a Palm emulator for it, and that thing is both accurate AND fast for HWR

It's A Fact Girl: It's A Fact.
[The It's A Fact Girl runs back into the woods, in sped up motion. When she stops, Scott as The Queen of England leans over in front of the camera and smiles as she addresses it.]
Scott: Hello. When I was a little girl, if a child was born with red hair, she was considered irreparably evil and drowned as a witch. It's a fact!
FWIW, the ObjC app framework was rewritten basically as a Carbon wrapper, unlike the older NeXT versions. So basically all the AppKit objects/methods are callling Carbon.

'utterly sufficient'? is that like 'majestically plain'?
Hey I resent that remark! I do no graphic design stuff in OS X, rather I do all my development in it. I get "real work" done on my Mac, and I play games on PCs.
As far as file formats and such, I'm surprised the guys at Gobe Software haven't tried to port their Productive suite over to OS X. then again, maybe they are....
Also, OS X 10.2 comes with AppleWorks on the second CD, but I don;t know how up to snuff they are with handling the latest.DOC format and.PPT and so on.
We get the dumbest person in the White House since Dan Quayle making science decisions? Ugh, this is really depressing. Just wait until he starts replacing other boards with ones that reflect 'his views'. Are we a dictatorship yet?

that way, you look like a miracle-worker =] (or so Scotty told LaForge)
Still, it would be an interesting universe had Be been chosen over NeXT. the Be APIs were super nice, but from what I heard they had a very hard time in larger projects. I think Gobe Productive was the largest app ever for BeOS. I used BeOS exclusively (when i had a peecee) for about a year, and I loved it. All the applications felt oddly 'light', I think from the quick responsiveness of it all.
scene: outside
Daniel Jackson appears wearing a white robe, surrounded by a glowing light: "I come to you now in your hour need."
no no no, its Yatta!
But I have karma to burn...

To who, my mom and dad?
looks like we're getting ready to fight the Goa'uld invasion forces... ;-)

Same delicious Cartoon Network, now with no MSG!
it means that MS supports terrorists! Or... something... :-D

Sometimes you just have to roll with it: what is more important: your job, or wearing a 15 year old Iron Maiden shirt to work?
It's not as bad as your arms being ripped out of their sockets!

Sure, Parker Louis isn't D.J., but he's cool in his own right
Yeah, though I believe they mentioned the technology was abandoned (I'm sure the transporter wouldnt make it thru their personal shields anyway)
Besides, that was a sniper rifle, I'm talking about heavy-duty weapons ala Aliens

Well, I have about as much respect for Steve Case as I do for Leonardo DiCaprio. I say let 'em sink!

- iTunes/"Rip, Mix, Burn"
Others I'm sure, I just can't think of at the moment =]"the Dragon Chip is proved to be very sound in performance, steady and reliable in operation and utterly sufficient to meet the working requirement of the server and website"
