perhaps off-topic, i know, but i have to ask you 3seas. have you thought about applying some of the concepts in your project to AI? of course, your concepts won't drive the whole thing, but it could give reasonably sound direction to automated thinking.

does anyone know if this thing is still going to happen? will anyone show up (besides microsoft)??
jesus christ, how the hell can this troll be posting at 2? he's already trolled this discussion a number of times. someone please shut him up. where's my mod points when i need them?
of course this will get moderated into oblivion because slashdot workers with unlimited mod points won't want to hear this point of view, but here it is:
i don't have a problem with subscription services, but this 'subscribe to see the story early' has a severe problem. first of all, it goes against the very principles what slashdot is based on. it gives subscribers the opportunity to have louder voices because they can comment before other people, and those first comments are usually modded to 4s and 5s.
thus subscribers will undoubtably all have excellent karma to post at 2 or more, which gives them louder voices than unsubscribed readers.
ya, it sounds like i'm bitching, but i've got excellent karma so i feel that my rant is quite valid.
subscribers! give them no advertisements! give them email addresses with drive space! give them access to a special high speed server! but don't give them the ability to have their voices heard any louder than a regular joe.
this post might be offtopic, but this point of view is impossible to ever be on-topic.

wow, you've just described what all the theatres are like here in Saint Petersburg, Russia. the difference is the price: i saw the Matrix Reloaded for 150 roubles, which comes out to exactly $5.
i'm 33 years old and have been involved with computers since i was 12. however, there's nothing that appeals to me more than picking out some remote spot in British Columbia, building a 1 room cabin in the summer with garden, surviving the winter, then the following summer adding on to the cabin and garden. imagine: hunting, fishing, contemplating life.
of course, i would need a power source for my laptop...
i run linux when developing, but i also run windowsXP for games, videos, etc. first of all, i work very quickly, moving and resizing windows, jumping from app to app, etc. i notice that in linux, i can move as fast as i want without a problem. in windows, if i move too fast, i usually have some sort of problem: an app crashing, XP starts getting unstable or something similar.
something else i notice with XP, overloading it with tasks can make it unstable, but sometimes i'm doing nothing but clicking on the start button or opening the trash bin, and freeze! not even ctrl/alt/delete saves me from this.
so i guess what i'm saying, is that XP crashes when doing too much or too little? wow, and i was almost brainwashed into thinking XP was more stable than its predecessors! silly me!
IBM, just go ahead and buy SCO, GPL everything they own, and let's put this silliness behind us.
as easy as that sounds, it literally makes me sick to think that SCO will be receive one single penny from this.
SCO, in all of their selfishness, deserves nothing. it is not the fault of the community if SCO's business model did not put more focus into the linux market by establishing a distro and services very much like Redhat has done.
Before even hearing that Microsoft is now involved, I had a hunch that this would be a perfect thing for MS to push. From the surface, it makes the GPL look shaky and raises doubts for IT departments allow linux onto production systems; what a perfect attack.
however, having been involved with the linux and open source community for almost 10 years, i know how strong of a voice we have. you can bet the community won't sit idle and let this foolishness actually happen.
good luck brothers! i fear this battle will be the biggest linux has ever faced, and i know we will stand together and not let corporate greed foil our plans for an open world of computing.
Connection established with port 25, reverse checked for presence on blackball list, if present drop connection silently. No reverse also gets dropped.
jeez, hey hitler, over here!
look, do you realize how hard it is these days to get your ISP to change your reverse to something you want? when Pacific Bell first offered DSL service, i actually was able, within 5 minutes of calling, to talk to the guy in charge of DNS for their entire network. he hooked me up with my own reverse.
call Pacific Bell now about changing the reverse, you will spend 3 hours on the phone with them denying that the idea of 'reversing an ip' exists, then you'll get some clueless fuck who accidently hangs up on you.
please, don't block if the reverse doesn't match up.
The cheapest one is, of course, Linux. But you can also install Windows 2000 Server or Windows Server 2003 - it makes no difference in terms of performance. 3Ware provides drivers for any of the three OSes.
for a project like this, i would use linux. nothing bad against windows, but let's use the right tool for the right job.
and using linux for this type of project is the right rool.
i've seen the Two Towers DVD out here in Russia for over a month now. obviously, there's no extra footage, but it's nice to watch this film in the comforts of my flat.

just a thought.. interesting project by the way.

passthecrackpipe (598773),
you are a troll and a bigot and your child-like behavior are not welcome here.

yes, i realize this was put in for a laugh. the problem is that some of our younger youth are actually starting to believe this crap.
you've got envangelists running around the country preaching that the moon landings were faked and that no jews were harmed in ww2.
our history is extremely important to our future. why the fuck would we want to distort it?
yes, but what about when slashdot's database is examined decades from now, in a time capsule sort of way?
and again at 16, then 20 then 24, then....
i run linux when developing, but i also run windowsXP for games, videos, etc.

then go back to your hole and hope that everything turns out ok.

i've noticed that many poeple still use the -l username when specifying a username when using ssh.
isn't it easier (and just make more sense) to do ssh username@host rather than ssh host -l username?
you're right.. linux is 1996 kind of sucked...

wow, i wonder how much ATI had to pay for that....
wow kick ass! i'm going to get this for my son instead of a big wheel!
ya, i've noticed that windows caters more to old people, too.

damn, damn, damn--
please make a movie of Salvage One.
god i loved that series!
this article is about women you dolt, not the chinese!
With the default MSIE settings it can't be done when the stylesheet specifies fixed pixel font sizes.
whoa, people still use MSIE? i mean, honestly?
i know, people will mark me as a troll, but really, if you're still using MSIE, you should give the latest mozilla build for windows a try.
i'm telling you, once you try mozilla, you won't go back to MSIE.
