I got the CE at my local EB at midnight this morning. The art book is really cool. The entire package is very fancy, and the art book is particularly nifty (Yes,.. cool, fancy and nifty).
It's making me consider going shopping for a coffee table for my couch, so that I can put the art book on it. I should probably have one anyway for when I invite the chaps over for tea, no?

Your comparisons to this advancement are a bit flawed.
A cell phone lets you talk anywhere. A CD player gives you improved lifespan, improved audio quality, and random track access with no rewinding needed. A TV gives you video. A telephone lets you talk instantly. A car is much faster, with less maitenance required.
The new DVD standard gives you... a slightly crisper display? I know, HD is cool. But I just don't think it's nearly as revolutionary as the others on your list.
You know, I was going to try to jab you for fun, and post "Yeah, that bugs me alot too." I typed it several times, and cleared it out. Seeing that awful "word" bugs me so much I can't even have a little fun at your expense with it! How's that for crazy?
As for your question on why someone bought a Segway, keep in mind the patron in question. This is a guy that hit the little girl, and kept on going. Do we really want to compare this guy to someone with common sense?
I mean, a decent person, even if the girl did jump out in front of him, would have gotten off the Segway and been like "OH NO I'M SORRY!" and made sure she was ok, and apologize to the dad.
Yeah, in fact while the bad dude was on the phone with his foreign employers, he made reference to not having to worry about it spreading back to the other continent.
I had a similar discussion with a friend after we saw 28 days later. We decided that while it's possible that mainland Europe was infected, it was virtually impossible for other major population areas to receive the virus. If you haven't seen the movie, the virus takes control over the victim within seconds and turns them into a mindless zombie. There's no way that a ship full of the infected could pilot its way across the ocean without crashing. If they happened to launch one with infected on it, and it happened to be pointed in a direction that would land it in another population zone, I'm sure the United States would nuke it all to hell before it could infect another country.
Insightful? The game is in beta phase. One of the main purposes of beta is to balance. Now admittedly, Blizzard has a history of having balance issues in the release version of its games, but that remains to be seen for World of Warcraft.
I'm among the flocks that have been following this game for every nugget of news I can get about it. I wasn't fortune enough to have the opportunity to beta test the game (yet), so I have no hands-on impressions apart from the barebones alpha. That said, based upon the legions of reviews that have been presented on the game in the beta state, I am under the impression that the low-end game is rock-solid. It leaves me with an undying curiosity to see what Blizzard does with the high-end game. Have they put even more of the Bliz-Polish into the upper levels, or has it been largely ignored in favor of making the starting levels perfect? As far as I know, the beta is still locked to a max level of 30. Does this mean that the high-end content is not yet there, or do they just not want to blow their wad during beta?
I have ultimate faith that Blizzard will pull it off, and make the game a blast to play from 1 to max. But.. as far as I can tell, the high end game appears to be the spot where if there is a weakness with the game, it will surely manifest. As indicated by the editor, the low end game has received entirely positive reviews.
I am currently just two weeks away from going live with a large web application written in PHP using Smarty. I can't speak to performance, as it is a complex application with a low number of clients, but for my needs it has been very acceptable. As far as the interface and syntax, I am in love with Smarty. I had become disenchanted with PHP due to the spaghetti code when you don't use such an engine. Smarty.. mmm, it has brought me back. In fact, I'm writing a templating engine for Ruby based on the Smarty syntax.
Interesting. Thanks for the tip. Just goes to show you, with Linux and UNIX, you can learn something new and useful every day. On a tangent, I've been using vi and vim for together over 10 years. It seems like I still learn some neat new trick inside of vim every week.

You forget what it's like at that age. As soon as I passed 16 plus 6 months, I too was "roughly 17."
