And yet, one of the 'primitive' browsers, webex for OS/2, DID have another way of browsing bookmarks and history...the web tree. Very nice feature, I'm surprised moz hasn't implemented it.
It would be nice if they made a model like the old libretto still, maybe a *little* more processor (500MHz would be great), but the ability to have more than 64MB of ram would be even more important. Oh yeah, and have the bios hibernate understand drives > 8GB...splitting everything across an LVM to avoid the bit void that is the hibernation partition on a 30GB drive was tricky.
I have a 110CT, and love it as a portable jukebox, kismet stumbler, etc. It's just a tad slow with mozilla and video though, which makes it a little less than ideal as a total multimedia solution.
WHo else can get speech? Huh?

Who else has the guts to get speech, get the recognition levels up, get the learning levels up in the standard interface?
Umm. To my knowledge, windoze still does not have speach enabled UI or apps. OS/2 Warp 4 had it as part of the OS. The speech-enabled netscape was quite nice.
This should have been in yesterday's article on irony. Isn't it ironic that you need a fast system to install gentoo, but one of the main reasons to have a fully custom-compiled system is to run on slower / older/custom hardware, I would think.
And honestly, who among us isn't interested in using the obviously superior Linux Distribution against which there can be no other contenders? (Oh dear god don't flame me! It's a joke people!)
Joke or not, comments like that are exactly why I don't care to even try the distro. I'll stick with Mandrake, Redhat, and slackware, which work great for me, thanks.
BTW, how easy is debian to put on a toshiba libretto? I've found Mandrake to be the only distro that makes this task relatively painless.
Linux always HAS been easy and user friendly for end users. You just have to give them a box that they log into that has their most commonly used stuff on a desktop, or in a menu, and you show them how to use the menu, the desktop, and how to close programs and shut down when done. For example "surf web" "write letter" "email" "spreadsheet" "chat with son" etc.
Each user can then do whatever they please in their environment, as they learn it. If they screw up, replacing to defaults is as trivial as a file copy.
USING linux is NOT hard. Administering it MAY be, but I find the guesswork with configuring and installing software on Microsoft's end-user offerings to be much more painful.
This is a ridiculous law (requirement). The best solution is to simply put the computers in plain site, where the kids aren't going to go to the 'naughty stuff'
For the most part, you DO have to TRY to get to a porn site to get there. Yes it's possible to inadvertently stumble across them, but in my experience, it is not likely.
Yet another law that tries to take over parenting and parental supervision. The lawmakers really need to stop doing this.
Well, they could work with M$ to implement something in the OS easily enough. I personally hope this DOES occur, as it would be the end of both of those nuisances in our lives.
"We have to find ways to mitigate piracy caused by open [technology] formats. But at the same time we have to meet consumer demand for these formats."
Uhhh...how about getting rid of dumb shit like DRM that will drive your customers away? How about pricing CD's sanely? How about charging either for the media or for the song. Which do I own? Why can't I get a CD of something I already bought on tape so many years ago for the price of the media, and a moderate 're-distribution' fee?
This will drive their profits down, not up. Retards.
Video is useless on a palm device. The first thing I did when I got my clie was get rid of the stupid movie player (or is that damned thing embedded in the os? I forget) and all of the sample stuff.
Why didn't they use an lcd like the Clie', only at the smaller size? That way it could actually run all native 160x160 resolution apps on the small screen. As it is, I don't think many palm apps will even run on this thing:(
An even better escape is the mountain bike in the spring/summer/fall, and the snowboard in the winter!
I must admit that I lost much training time and also work on my cycling team's event database (embedded perl + MySQL + Apache) while working my way through RTCW.
..but takes more processor to play (at least the last time I played with Ogg, and I admit my only testing was with the xmms plugin). Not great if you want to use on a portable device, where battery life is a concern.

First, using mozilla, then using MSIE. This is basic, basic stuff that is missing in IE, and is but one example.
My fav. peeve is MS's broken CSS, where you HAVE to use
tags for everything if you want to apply any sort of formatting to them.I have a 110CT, and love it as a portable jukebox, kismet stumbler, etc. It's just a tad slow with mozilla and video though, which makes it a little less than ideal as a total multimedia solution.

Too bad I don't think alanis meant to be ironic by not being ironic in a song about irony. Does anyone think she's that brilliant?
I think it's ironic that alanis's song about irony isn't about irony.
Information available in many sci-fi and mystery books, I'm sure. So these authors are now criminals?

is there any kind of plan for a <menu> tag in the future?
On a side note, with this becoming more and more common, is there any kind of plan for a tag in the future? Seems like the right thing to do.
I installed rc1 yesterday, no problems. RC2 will not install without having a newer glibc installed. Ugh.

With the lag on the 'net 2nite, I think it may have already been unleased

So, now you are ready to get off of that inflexible router and start using IPtables on linux for your firewall, right?

I just don't get how those two words can possibly go together.
Or use zipcentral

When I have to use a windoze box, I use zipcentral. There is good free software out there for windoze (putty, anyone?), if you care to look.
