  1. Re:Rehash on Age Of Mythology Invades Atlantis · · Score: 5, Insightful

I've heard this sentiment before. It's a little daft. If you're looking for a NEW experience, get a NEW game. If you're already enjoying a game experience and want to have more fun in the same world with new units, etc, get an expansion pack. There's a market for both. Yes it is much like AOE, but for those of us who appreciate detail, it's different in enough ways as to make it worth our time. Really people, you make it sound like every game on the shelf needs to be mind-fuckingly original. Why is modding such a huge sensation, if people don't enjoy fun in the same context. Now the price IS a little steep, but that's a different matter.

Actually my post was well written and entertaining. It was rather elegant actually. It also introduced something new to the discussion. Yours did not. Fine if you didn't see reloaded. Your post smacked of someone who did. Its the kind of pap that's been passing for thought around here.

Why did this get modded up? It's the same kind of blithering high school banter we've been having to put up with on /. since that crap Reloaded film came out. People PLEASE get it through your heads already. Noone wants to hear you spew your BAD sci-fi psychobabble. It's not relevant to the discussion at hand and it's making you look like a junior higher taking pot for the first time, contemplating the existance of twinkies.

Oh PUHLEASE. Reloaded SUCKED. It was boring, trite and inane. Do you REALLY think anyone left the building wanting more pap philosophy from their movies? Why would that be a good thing anyway? Do you really think there's some Hollywood exec out there thinking, hmm, it really (DIDN'T LOOK AT THE MEDIOCRE BOX OFFICE RECIPTS) worked for Reloaded, let's film several more crap movies with shitty half assed philosophy. Furthermore, noone left Reloaded and signed up for a goddamn intro to philosophy class. At the most they bought the novelization of the movie and bored their girlfriend to tears blithering on about the shite.

this is what happens when Puritan values get confused with "good taste". Entertainment and free speech are ALWAYS the victims. The jokes had their place and were genuinely funny. Don't confuse your pent up discomfort for high-minded criticism. Frankly Gollums jokes were hardhitting, GUTSY as well as risque. They were in short, genius. Untie your panties from that twist grandma and relax.

No kidding. Is this what passes for good logic on /. lately? It's as flawed as the blithering of a neurotic mother. It's like with cartoons or children's TV. Seeing kids play-fight afterschool acting as their favorite Power Ranger is hardly indicitive of the powerful mind controlling influence of bad japanese entertainment. It's indicitive of boys desires to tumble, fight, and play.

I completely agree. Even when it done perfectly (toy story etc), 3d still lacks. Check out the art work in Monkey Island or the original Sam and Max. Loads more interesting than the plasticene baloons they look like in the screenshots. I do like the advances shows like futurama and games like the new zelda are making merging 3d and traditional animation. It looks seamless and captures the 'living cell' look of traditional.

"Gay Movement". Gay rights at its base is neither paranoid, emotive, nor fanatical. There are gay groups that push extremist agendas, but fighting for basic civil liberties that ignore your sexual orientation is hardly extremist. Religion is a person choice one makes, and it's protected by civil law, why would sexual preference not be similarly protected? BTW, what 'gay movement' themed cartoon can you think of? If you try and use any "tolerance preaching" cartoon as an example, you're wrong to start with. Those cartoons could just as easily be preaching for religious tolerance as well. I agree that 'toons are tepid and preachy, but they've got fanatical protestant soccermoms to worry about as well as your fantasy "liberal extremists"
