That is true.. if you do a default installation and make absolutely no change to any of the services that come installed with it.. that's why it was secure for 4 something years.. but they didn't mention that if you had an old BIND version at the time it would still be "secure" :-)

is 250,000 Euro really needed to educate and research on migration from Windows to Linux? Personally, but I know this will not happen, I would take advantage of resources on the Internet (i heart google :-)) based on migration for the systems and the users. Of course, later on, the money can be used to train users how to use linux, but with KDE 3.0 and so many more easier window managers and distributions popping (LibraNet a personal favorite for me).. it really won't be too difficult to install it and use it. There would be no reason for them to even use the console.

What if you were a certain race and a website was found via google, claiming how much they despise your race and culture and want to kill off your whole race, for instance. How would you feel when Google goes ahead and blocks these sites from coming up in the search? Happy? Or would you be offended due to the fact that Google is blocking that site from popping up from further searches? Have some respect towards people who don't want to see such negative things, such as a pro-nazi site, white supremacist site..

Ogg's compression rate/size is not even a case for a competition against MP3.. against WMA for that case..

Here's the proof.. and I know i'm going to get modded down, but folks.. MP3 is the mainstream.. your typical Joe Shmoe will have no clue what the hell you're talking about when you say Ogg Vorbis.. for all he/she will think.. it's some foreign film or something..

  16. Laptop + 3G = solution on 64kbps @ 40,000 ft. · · Score: 1

    Two issues on my mind...

Firstly, let's think realistic (and this is not a flame). Most of the people who will use a laptop on a flight.. a high percentage of them will be using it for business purpose most likely. If a person is traveling frequently with their laptop, shouldn't their company provide them a cell phone that's 3G supported? Then they could just run a link from the phone to the laptop and voila, instant internet. Which leads to the next point. Why bother paying the extra fee for using 64kbps all the time? If anything the airline companies should consider doing a "frequent surfing miles?" Yes, I know, that's a horrible way to put it, but you see where I am getting at?

Secondly, as far as I know, wouldn't an internet connection have some sort of an interference with the radars? I'm assuming it's a satellite internet connection, but there are probably a bunch of issues the airline companies will be coming upon with this whole new addition.

Second thought might not be so valid, but bleh.. I have to be critical ;-)

  22. i agree on Scientists No Longer Sharing Information? · · Score: 0, Troll

With so much tension going on right now in the world and the whole situation after 9/11, personally, I believe that any vital information related to science and other fields of development should be kept confidential and internal.

When Clinton was in office, look what happened (i'm a Republican). First off the whole Sandia National Laboratories scandal with the scientist from China who stole information on nuclear development (please keep in mind, my facts are probably wrong because this happened a while back and I haven't got a chance to research on it), but not even that. Clinton sold China a bunch of our layouts for modernized weaponry, aircraft, etc.. probably due to the fact that China gave the Clinton Administration a hearty donation.

The fact is, in general and it's the truth, if you find or discover something that no one ever has found or discovered, be smart and don't share it with anyone. As greedy as I might sound, it's a fact, it's reality. It's like finding a great idea for a business that nobody has right now. Are you going to go telling the whole world you found this great idea? Absolutely not.

Therefore, I think it's best that for now, any new developments should be kept confidential rather than sharing this with colleagues, and especially colleagues from other countries.
