    While I agree it is nice to have someone to support, you might want to take a look at AutoZone as a company before you pledge your dollars.

    SCO chose AZ for a reason, AZ has deep pockets. Check out their 7.7 billion market cap. A new set of plugs ain't going to help where they need help.

    Try grassroots growing and astroturf mowing. Hearts and minds people!

    It's a nice theory, as it justifies anything, but it fails if you bother to think about it.

    The grandparent post is referring to absolute truth and moral relativism in which he is correct on both accounts. You acknowledged that the mind evaluates right/wrong subjectively but you know the interpretation of that only manifests itself as pain/pleasure which are not consistent from person to person. So are there no aboslute moral truths? You bet your ass there aren't.

    Why do you hate freedom?

    I've been using Linux as a hobbyist since 1995. The one consistent thing over the releases that has always been a issue, at least for me, is getting sound to work. Various hardware, various distros, almost all require tweaking.

    Does anyone else have the same observation?

    Who are the terrorists again? So that my aim is true, how can I tell if someone is a terrorist? Oh, and could you quantify who the people in need are, and how I am supposed to tell the difference between them and the terrorists. I want to make sure I am blowing up the correct people... to protect them from the terrible secret of space.

    I don't know about GM but regarding Ford I would say yes. The Fords are very hands on.

    I read The Da Vinci Code like a lot of people then went back and read the rest of his works in reverse chronological order. I am fairly confident in saying that Mr. Brown has improved as an author markedly with each new publication. I would also argue that he has finally hit his stride with the 'Code because all previous books suck.

    That said, I am eargerly awaiting his next work, it should be a pretty good read.

    Not to pee in any Cheerios..

    I downloaded Freenet last week and installed it on an vanilla SuSE 9 box. I let it run for 2 days on a fixed IP and I couldn't even get off my node. Obviously I did something wrong but I'll be damned if I can figure it out. No errors during install and no errors during run time. Double-checked IP and port, set up forwarding in the firewall like the dozen other ports that work just fine through it.

    Is there something else going on big picture? Do I need a secret password or handshake to get let into the club?

    Yeah, without Microsoft products, Al Gore couldn't have invented the internet.

    I see my mission now.. to reply to every post with this lame ass joke with information about how it is NOT TRUE. You've heard of snopes.com, the Urban Legends Reference Pages? Please read this article before posting this lie. The proper joke would be, "Al Gore says he took the initiative in creating the Internet!". While certainly a poor choice of words for Mr. Gore even in context of the interview, he did not claim to invent the Internet.

    That goes for you too, moderators. This cliche is certainly not +5 Funny and you know it.

    Why should he?

    People read reviews by critics because they are interested in their opinion. Most professional reviews are paid advertisements. Amateur ones are shrines. Why should I care what books CrankyFool thinks this book is like if he can't even provide a lucid summary of the book's "hook" in a compelling way to make me interested both reading his review and possibly obtaining the book to read?

    CrankyFool's review reads like a high school book report, which it probably is. CrankyFool could have saved some electronics and our time if he had just said...

    Neil Gaiman is a Slashdot Hot Topic. I like Neil Gaiman's books. Neil Gaiman, American Gods, Neil Gaiman, Neil Gaiman, Neil Gaiman. If you like derivative works of authors like Neil Gaiman, this is a darn decent book [0]. Link to book for kickbacks.

    I'm a little confused as to why this is marked outright "false" and not the more accurate "sort of" mark that Snopes sometimes uses. Gore took credit for something he really had no part in.

    Granted Gore's choice of words left him open to misunderstanding and ridicule but I am more right than wrong that the "invented" joke is a stupid lie. Morons repeat the joke this way. If they wanted to be funny and accurate (which helps with humor), at least say "Al Gore says he took initiative in creating the Internet!". Then I would laugh along with the moron in question.

    ... boneheaded things Gore said that lost him the 2000 election.

    Talk about Revised Republican History. You know as well I as do that nothing Al Gore said lost him the election. A little thing called the Supreme Court and the great state of Florida did that. No use bitching about it now though, eh?

    Would it matter if you knew? Would you value the reviewer's opinion if you did? Every book "review" I've ever read on slashdot has been useless. Sad though, so much potential here but such odd direction. When I see a book review here I think oh, more paid advertising. I like to read the comments, like this one, for a chuckle. :)
