    Great, so we'll also be getting screwed by OREEEC (Organization of Rare Earth Element Exporting Countries) in addition to OPEC. I can't wait.

    Hopefully we'll find alternatives for this looming shortage, as with the examples you mentioned (except for pyramid shims, never found anything else that works well). Maybe the reduction in size of circuits and other production improvements will compensate for the increased numbers of devices produced, keeping the amount of rare stuff used about the same.

    Next up for them is creating 10 perfect (but miniature) bowling pins. This is all part of a misguided effort to bowl a perfect 300 game. Have to applaud the effort though.

    Seriously, isn't this just a stopgap effort to mitigate some of the problems with the current standard? It sounds like the Watt balance technique mentioned in TFA is a much better idea. Hopefully the techniques used in the sphere effort can also be used elsewhere.

    That's actually hidden in the released documents. You have to go to a specific page of the Excel portion, and by starting at a specific line and skipping the correct numbers of lines between read lines, the spec will be revealed. The exact details are left as an exercise for the morbidly curious.

    I've seen the (local) news broadcasts fed to people in other countries, and some of it was even crappier than Fox. I actually saw newscasters holding up a newspaper and slowly reading the headlines to their audience. The ironic part is people from this country (you know who you are) are often picking on the quality of U.S. news reporting.

    Definitely spam them. Spam them up and down. Spam them until they're blue in the face. Spam them until your fingers bleed. Put the other company as the sender of the spam.

    The next day after you stop, send one modest advertisement (spam lite?) to the list, from your company.

    Of course, this advice only applies if my name is not on the list.

    Simple then. Turn off the magnetic field (after the anti-particle is stabilized), and see if the boom comes from the top or the bottom of the vacuum container. Or determine the vector in the magnetic field, turn off the field, and see where the impact location deviates from the expected path.
