Troubleshooting left to newbies? Pre-OsX troublehsooting by way of Swapping Extensions (or Ext.manager sets) and control panels until u find the offending party is easy enough for newbies but a real annoyance for a user who is capable of understanding resource conflicts because it can take so damn long (ie, looking to see if devices are sharing an IRQ or on a shared PCI slot in the PC world).
So if "the companies that produce the content must pay to protect people from it" then go after the porn companies to create a meta tag or something similar to facilitate client-end filtering.
isn't as bad as everyone makes out. Its just not an app that instantly gratifies when u jump in and play. Sit down and RTFM for a few days (especially the UI and Environment chapters) and it becomes clearer. Use it for 2-3 months and the worst part of the learning curve is over imo...
Lack of more than 8 bits per color channel? Lack of metadata relating to the shot (camera settings etc especially)?
As many other posters pointed out there can be quite a bit of additional data stored in the RAW format from many high end cameras, the problem is accessing that data later when u may not have the camera (ie, proper RAW driver) available.
Wasn't the SX also compatible with different/older memory types, while the 'DX' required EDO? I seem to recall something about the SX being 32bit internally but only having a 16bit bus, while the DX was 32bit across the board.
NTSC and PAL don't have '32' or '24' bit color because they're not digital. In fact NTSC isn't even a linear colorspace when converting from '24' bit color the gamut of colors is reduced enough that you have to check your color & 'black' signals on a scope or use a similar tool to insure that you're not out of bounds.
Actually output values are extremely important in the Film world where you're often dealing with with 8/16/32 bit integer and 32 bit floating-point channels depending on task.
"Computer games don't affect kids; I mean if Pac-Man affected us as kids, we'd all be running around darkened rooms, munching magic pills and
listening to repetitive electronic music."
>>Just because portions of society (portions which, I might add, aren't often of the same views as those who work in the tech industry) consider porn immoral doesn't mean it's not going to make a buck.
In fact one might even argue that a lot of repression (immorality!) even guarantees it will make a buck.
In any other situation, how would one characterize a group which seizes control of a geographic area (their "turf"), intimidating not only the inhabitants but also nearby neighbors who refuse to knuckle under? These thugs loot the wealth from the area, under the hollow pretext of "protecting" the victims...
Not to detract from the horrors that the Chinese government seems to have committed, but before losing ourselves completely to Patriotic thumpings it might behoove us to remember the original natives of America and how "a group [siezed] control of a geographic area, intimidating not only the inhabitants but also nearby neigbors..." blah blah blah.
Still, I do hope that the men are returned safely.
Set your pagefile to a different drive than your OS (or whatever drive is highest performing/used least)
-in a partition that has been defragmented (and hopefully devoid of other disk-intensive stuff like video)
-set BOTH your mix/max values to approx. twice your RAM (or a bit more if you've very little ram)
-make sure (again) that your min/max values are the SAME to avoid having to allocate additional swap space on the fly
I'm rather anal about my system performance here, I've got 2000 installed on my 1st scsi drive (a 4gig) and then another small/fast scsi drive that houses my swapfile set to twice my 640MB of ram.
IDE drives house all of my data and application.
Besides avoiding problems with the pagefile I also get around that ever so slight halt that I've noticed even with intel's busmastering IDE/66/100 drivers when, for instance, I minimize photoshop to jump back into an Ebay bidding frenzy.
What I would *really* like to know is, when all the Napster hoopla dies down, are people still going to be interested in Artist's rights?
I find it rather amusing that the RIAA uses 'artist's rights' as the flag under which they are currently doing battle (yes, that is an oversimplification I know).
Also, go to www.3dchipset.com and download the latest 7.xx drivers. There's another site somewhere that carries the same drivers with benchmarks, but that url is at home. I do know that the ones previous to 7.17 seemed to be more framerate friendly, but the 7.17's have been the best for me under Win2k & ME both.
Klute 'Fear Of People'
if you're into introspective DnB and breakbeat

Ed Rush & Optical 'Creeps LP'

There's a few new things on a German label called Intergroove, a v/a mixed by Sven Vath and a NAMLOOK, Pete/DJ DAG downtempo thing--both look interesting
---
Ritchie Hawtin's 'Decks Effects & 909's"
if you've not gotten it already get it although it's far from new

Flipper Returns (again)
Mister Ed Returns (again)
Benji Returns (again)
etc...
The cold war ended, the PC term is now 'terrorist' not 'communist'.

Too bad your spelling and grammar are fine, it renders the joke less realistic...
I want an Earthbelt.
This thing is moving pretty damn fast...if we hit something....

Sounds more like a hardware problem with the Compaq machine. Of course you sort of allude to that. But then you go on to blame XP anyway?

Zero to Slashdotted in 8 posts!
Is anyone able to pull the article from their cache and post the text?
But irc isn't unmoderated, we have botnets and generally (outside of the occasional EFNET DOS) have pretty good control over our channels.
Oh you meant THEIR control...

Of course it's only 6:30am west coast time....
An entire slashdot thread in 3 posts! (1 flaming, one crying for compassion and one pointing out this has been covered before)

Remnants of a decadent British ruling class?
