    The Chinese Room argument is an illustration of a normal 'dumb' computer program that is coded by a human, not artificial intelligence that learns and figures out its own rules of how to behave.

    With this system that gradually creates its own system of output from comparing various inputs, how is it really behaving any differently than an infant learning to speak?

    Ever since I started using a VCR I've been the recording from 2 or 3 minutes before the show starts to 2 or 3 minutes after it ends to make up for the VCR time not being consistant with the show time.

    Just because you can't permanantly mark the surface doesn't mean that it doesn't have any surface tension, which would need to be the case if you wanted to go without windshield wipers. Notice that when he tried to use the marker on the disk, the ink didn't just slide off. It still stayed on until it was wiped off.

    That is probably because, unlike SOME Redmond-based monopolies whose names I won't mention, they try to actually get it RIGHT before they release it. Good software is preferable to timely software any day.
