  11. Re:Hydro Quebec are really out in front here on Broadband Over Power Lines in Canada · · Score: 1

So, if some power company has to offer internet access, is has to be them.

They CAN do it. Even if they eventually offer this service, will it be popular? I dont think so:

    1. Other ISPs: There are a few major ISPs here for many years: Bell's Sympatico, Videotron/Cogeco (as you may know it if you're from Quebec) with a nice bunch of customers. When I ask anyone if they are satisfied with whatever major ISP they have business with, they say they are okay with them (since there is no more download caps). So Hydro Quebec will have to offer a service with unlimited monthly download if they want to succeed

    2. Cost: as someone else pointed out, we can get a DSL account for cheap (someone mentionned $20?! Where what how?) I personally pay $35 CAN (taxes included), and I think its quite cheap. So Hydro Quebec have to deal with those aggressive prices. If they (Hydro Quebec) have to upgrade/add something to their power network to provide this service, Hydro Quebec will have to pay this upgrade in some way (I live in Quebec and I'm not an Hydro customer at all, but I have heard something on the news about "power fees not going up for the next few years" at Hydro Quebec.) So they have to charge someone/something for that network upgrade.

The big question is HOW they will make profit off this?

  12. Re:Here, I'll save you sum time on New Graphics Company, With Working Cards · · Score: 1

The good news: a new, cheaper GFX company bursts on to the scene to challenge Ati and Nvidia dominance. Is this a good thing? I dont think so. My point: it would be a real pain for game devloppers to release a bug-free game if there was like 69 companies each having their own chipset (or whatever you call it). Having Direct3D based versus OpenGL based cards is wrong (from a gamer point of view: "which card should i pick?"). All that diversity makes me think that videogames consoles might have an advantage after all: one set of hardware used, so no need to spend time on porting the game on another "hardware set".

I get bored of old songs, so there ya go, on a CD. I dont listen to 'em anymore.

I just cleaned up my hard drive two weeks ago and I noticed that there was so much stuff I dont listen to anymore. So if someone say to me "My music folder takes 40Gb.", i'd reply "And how much of that music do you really listen to? Sure, you dot the lastest Celine Dion CD, but do you really listen to it?"

When I take the bus, I bring my Sony player (using MiniDiscs), and 5 of these disks are more than enough for my listening needs.

(FYI, my music folder takes 11Gb on my hard drive, and i didn't start to burn CDs of not-listened mp3s yet. You heard me RIAA, 11Gb. :P)

First, let's define "chain letter". A chain letter is ANY e-mail that contains instructions to "forward this out to ten of your friends" or "forward this to everyone you know" or anything else of that nature.

Ok, here's the cold hard truth folks. Listen closely. There is no sick kid. There is no company out there willing to give you free clothes. There is no company that is going to give you a free vacation. There is no company out there with a $100 check in their hand waiting for you. The sad truth is, these chain letters are developed by shady fly-by-night internet marketing companies who concoct some big story to get you to play along and send out their chain letter -- they ask you to forward it to your friends and after awhile the e-mail makes it back to them and presto, they've got hundreds of e-mail potential customers and they didn't even have to work for them.

Thats so true... just look at one of these "omfg lol forward that shit" mail from your friends..! There is so much e-mail address that its not even funny. A real goldmine for a spammer.
