  5. Re:PvP and PvE can't coexist on The Lost Art of Class Balancing · · Score: 1

For PvP only, every class has to be an even match. That means the developers can't give really good abilities to some classes that would greatly help against mobs. Look at how badly fear and seduction are nerfed in WoW. They were handy in PvE, were overpowered in PvP, they got nerfed for PvP, now they suck for PvE. That is the cycle that happens in every game as PvP begins to overshadow the PvE.

Actually, fear and seduction had their PvP effects changed, not their PvE effects. They suffer from diminishing returns in PvP only, they still have full effect in PvE.

I've played FPS games all my life. This spring I went to the citizen's police academy where I got to experience some polic training, including a firearm simulator. In this simulator I was handed a modified gun, and told to react to situations that play out on a screen in front of me. During all three scenerios I reacted poorly, by both drawning my weapon too slowly and inaccurately firing my gun. I've also had plenty of experience firing real guns, and I can tell you nothing prepares you for even a highly realistic simlulation of firing at another human being. Anyone who would fire at another person had it in them before they played any game.

Personally I have AT&T, but I want to switch to Verizon because my friends all have plans that give extra mobile-to-mobile minutes, which would be useful since they are the core group of people I talk to. Up until a few days ago though, I couldn't do it because of complications with changing my number.

I tend to cook a lot for myself. Most recipes come from the Joy of Cooking, which is pretty much the only cookbook one needs. As for things not found in that book, I look up recipes on the internet and always print them. I can safely say I'd never ever ever ever ever want to try to look at a monitor while cooking because it is much easier to shuffle paper around than it is to scroll, click, and wait to load. That and if I modify a recipe it is trivial to scratch in the change on my printout. that's much easier to do when your hands are covered in oil than finding you place and typing it in.

If it was really unfriendly you could get stuck on the wrong side of the planet for a week or more. That makes things real cold real quick.

Plus you'd have this enormous object to look at in the sky. Now, I can't say I know what I'm talking about here (but then, on slashdot, who does?) but I'd imagine a moon the size of earth orbiting a planet the size of Jupiter would have one huge part of the sky covered. I know that DDR is the big popular dance game, but if you want one that's really fun play Pump It Up (PIU). I find that one to be a lot more challenging than DDR, plus you don't have the annoying announcer screaming "Good Job!" or whatever the hell he says.

Also, I own the home pads for DDR and PIU, and PIU has much better pads IMO. Plus those are pads for your PC, so you can download fan made songs to dance to. :-) DDR only has playstation pads as far as I know. I'm sure there's a hack to get them going on your PC so you can download songs, but PIU is ready to go over USB.

Reading this I want to run out and play some PIU. To bad I'm getting my ACL repaired this time next week. :-(

  25. This reminds me of a book.... on Shop Till It Drops · · Score: 2

Did anyone ever read A Stainless Steal Rat is Born? It's been a long time since I read it, but in the book the main character spends a good bit of time in an automated fastfood restaurant hiding from the police. It was really easy for him to steal food there since it had a built in test button that served up sandwiches to the back room, and since there were no employees noone was there to stop him (except the restocking guy, who came once a week).

The restaurant itself was really cool, a person would put in their order, and the automated system would have everything cooked and ready to go before the customer even got their money out to pay. Much better than McDonalds, which in some places can be slower than a sit down restaurant because the employees are so slow.
