If you are a big business person, who does most of your work on a laptop on a plane (or other conveyance). It is definately worth $3-5. If you are a college student just playing around, it probably isn't.
When I was a computer operator between 1996-1998, we used them all of the time. We used to send direct deposit info to the bank on 9-track tapes, as well as send information to the State of Florida on 9-track tapes. All of our backups were on 8mm, and DLT tapes, but almost all of the data that we transmitted on tape was using 9-track tapes. All of the 9-track drives I used were autoloading drives, so I never had the fun of manual loading one though.
I think that those screen shots were just to show that any windows software can run under Lindows. If MSFT software can work under Lindows, then every windows program probably can. I'm sure MSFT is working even harder to bind Office to Windows.:-)
OOP is suitable for large software packages that evolve over time. Such as a Word Processor, Inventory System, etc.
If you are writing a program to calculate the trajectory of a rocket or something, where the code probably won't change over time, then a quick procedural program is probably the best. For engineers, something like mathcad was probably designed using OOP, because it is a software package that is changed often between versions.
I have met many an asshole, who think that I am arrogant, because I have a CS degree. The fact that I am working on my MSCS, even pisses them off more. I guess people who fsck their life up when they were younger tend to be jealous of people who actually went to college.
People without college degrees are just programmers. Most of them lack formal training in the theory behind computer science. This could probably explain why many pieces of software are unreliable, and inefficient. Usually to design hardware, a company won't even look at you unless you have a BSCE/BSEE.
The problem with CLEPing courses, is that any accredited (real) university has a limit (of a couple of courses) on the amount of courses that you can can clep. Most of these lower division courses are like Algebra, Calculus I,II,III, etc. I don't know of any program that would let you clep Upper division classes core to your degree.
A lot of companies market things as Windows. The things on the side of my house are "windows". My car also has "Windows". What about drive-thru "windows".
Lindows could say that they only share 4 letters, because the other 3 come from Linux.
I should have trademarked "I" as a company name. Then I could sue over the ipaq, etc. Is this stupid or what!!!
Since M$FT has the $$$ they will probably win. Hopefully Liberty Alliance, POSIX compatible operating systems, etc. take over and we don't have to worry about M$FT's shit!
Maybe the XFL should sue MSFT over the X-Box name....
I think sony should let this one go. You have to cut up your PS2, in order to get a mod chip to work don't you? How many people (average Joe, not nerd) will do something like that to get free games. My brother has a PSX, and his friend has one with a mod chip (friend is a nerd). My brother has no desire to add a mod chip to his PSX, even though his friend could do it for the price of the chip. The non nerd community doesn't really care about mod chips, 'cause every non-nerd I know has no desire to get a mod chip.
Personally I stick with PC games, and wait the 2 or 3 weeks for a good hack to come out.
I live in St. Petersburg, FL (Tampa Bay Area). Every genre of music is already covered. Why drop $8-13/mo. to listen to something that I already get for free. I think this would be useful if I lived in a rural area, where you only get like 5 stations, but pointless for everywhere else.
Build a giant supercomputer with AMD Athlon processors attach all of the heatsinks to a big pool of water, and run the turbines off of the steam created.
You are all missing the point. It is, "Upgrade to this new OS, we even have Madonna singing 'Ray of Light' as the theme song, so it has to be good". The idea of an OS having a theme song is stupid, but I guess it works. I wonder what the theme song for kernel 2.6 is going to be?:-)
It is probably 99.999% uptime, or your money back for your downtime. 8 crashes * 5 minute reboot / 365*24*60...:-) I don't see how they could possibly guarantee a Windows box will stay up 99.999% of the time. It is probably just a marketing gimmick like the 10yr/100,000 mile warranty on cheap cars (Hyundai, Kia,...).
Microsoft needs to go through all of their code and look for buffers that can be overran. They also need to design their software to be secure, and not to make every moron off the street think they are able to run a datacenter... MCSE anyone?
The solution is simple enough, get another ISP. I don't even use the POP3 mail accounts my ISP provides. I use netscape webmail, and can check my e-mail everywhere. I used to use hotmail, until MSFT bought it, but I am sure I am one of the millions of people microsoft says are potential Passport members...... (Yeah Right!)
Yeah, and Microsoft assumes all hotmail users (most of which joined years before the MSFT purchase) are passport users. I hope they aren't including my 15 bogus hotmail accounts that I have made up over the years....:-)
Does anyone know where I can get a weather report
for hell? I bet it is cold.

Wasn't he going to give the software to the Government for free?

.NET is the biggest piece of vaporware ever. MSFT should call it .NOT

What exactly is a "fuckstick"?

Why do you think that XP install is so insistant that you register for Passport. Then they can link a Serial# with a name and address.

A place like that could be the home of the world's greatest LAN party. Especially if it had a convention center on it... :-)

Hmmmm, a modem, I sorta remember those during the BBS and dial-up days. You mean people still use those?
I didn't see any labels on the cables. I guess they must have some database that stores the information.

It is missing one of the three (Palm, phone, keyboard). It is actually missing the Palm part, not all PDA's have Palm OS...
