Granted, a lot does have to do with choice. Mostly because no one aggrees to what thye want so everyone gets 5 cds worth of stuff to choise from. And the fact it is free plays a big part!
Do you really want to know the real reason? Quiyte simple, MS has several monopolies, when a company has a monopoly it has a differnt/additional set of laws that applies to it.
OS/2 came with a lot of other applications as well.

It just seams that multi-play has forgoten that not all multiplay is PvP. Try playing NWN or some game in co-opt mode and you will be disapointed in it as well.
I agree, and after having bad blocks with a reiserfs system, I don't want to touch reiserfs again. reiserfs has no way to deal with bad blocks. Only a hack that you have to implament everytime your system does a fsck. You basicaly fake it that those bad blocks have a file. Reiserfs +IBM HD's = hair loss

Created a new e-mail addy for them, give that to them for registration, and a unique name. You will get spam listed t othat brand new e-mail with subjects showing that unique name.
So this free version is far from free, people will get 100+ spam a day just from these scum bags. I just advise people to get soemthing else. (for me f-prot, $50 for 10 PC's)
I would consider minor changes/customizatoins to the OS/GUI would fall under ease of use. After all, chaging a background, playing a computer game, installign an updated version of an app, are all very common things done all the time under MS windows with just a click of the button. No research or knowlage of computers needed.
But lets also put in one other factor. "Just work". Things need to just work. Linux doesn;t do a good job of just having things work. Everything should have defaults(part of the program, not a conf file) that just work, and is secure. I should be able to brows the network just as easy as windows boxes. I should be able to share just as easy. (just one example, I can go on and on and on)
The example of installing a working version of gaim was a really good example of the pains of install for people who don't want to spend a lot of time playing arround with a system, but rather want to just use it. All the dependancies needed for both sorc and rpms. And lack of install time options. (editing files is not run time)
Customers when installign sofware should at least be given the option of what to install, and then where to install it. Again defaulting to what works.

Actually, companies try very hard to take advantage of their employees. Even with laws they find ways arround it.
The problem now days is that Unions have now become a big evil in most cases. Costing employees a lot of miney, creating lazy workers, gouging the employer with having more redundant workers not doing anything.
Example is looking at roadside crews, where you see 10 people holding stop or slow signs, and 1/2 of them are chating with someone who isn;t doing anything. Then you see 10 more people watching 1 person using a piece of equipment.
But all in all, I would love to see a IT union started, except that we are losing jobs to other countries already. However, with a union set up, we might get some political pull in helping the "American Pride" campain. Push companies to bring their support lines back to the states, and no fireing seasond men and replacing them with right out of school/temp jobs.

That is just one example of them over reaching.

Black people where always allowed into the LDS church, just couldn't have the prestood till 1970's. Something to do with not being very public opinion. There was never multiple men to one woman. It was 1 man for multiple wives, just like the bible. It was only a vew who praticed this. It is not sharing, it is the way you get mp3's of CD's you own. You have no way of knowing who is connecting to you, let alone, if they have the CD.
The way I look at the p2p music/movie sharing is ripping to computer w/o having to deal with the actualy ripping settings and configuring.

I would say, most people using mod chips just want something more to play with. Either to put linux on it, or just to customize their xbox.
In fact I know people who never touched linux, and have modded their xbox left and right. And they actualy own(or borrow) all the games they play.
