In America's Cup Yacgting they pull a crewman to the top of the mast to look out for wind gusts (or to make repairs in the rigging) I am sure those masts are at least 15M
Firstly I'd like to say I don't drink tea, coffee or other hot bereage. Therefore I am saving the environment enough energy to do my google searches.
Google makes money in spite of its electricity bill. The money comes from advertisers. If those advertisers weren't advertising on the internet, they would be sending out glossy paper adervtising which uses way more energy, and of course choppimg down trees to,ake the paper.
What google could do is install wind turbines to help power their servers. Also if there is that much power involved then there would be a lot of hot surplus, which they could use to provide heat for nearby businesses or other institutions. (it is after all winter at the moment) Or even boil a cup of tea.
It woulg be cool if they could stream video with no additional hardware... Does the TV contain its own satellite aerial? Or does it use IP over power lines?
If you ask for the 'free super saving' shipping then it takes a while for them to actually ship it. Standard shipping arrives in a couple of days usually.
knows about closed streets as well as open ones. Driving down a closed street is often not smooth at all. (Of course that is during the pther season of the year (road construction) right now we are in the snow removal season.
I don't know of anywhere that uses incandescent bulbs for street lighting anymore. How efficient are LEDs compared to sodium or mercury vapor fluorescents which are currently used?
What about home lighting? Are120v screw in bulbs available for a reasonable price yet? You can buy CFLs in the 800-1000 lumen power for less that $2 apiece...
I don't know about Australia, but in some countries, death traps for burglars are classified as illegal, and if you manage to kill a burglar with one you could be found guilty of at least manslaughter, maybe murder.
But selling music downloads 'DRM free' is not new. I haven't bought any physical CD's for a year or so. Nowdays I buy music from Amazon, they have a section for MP3 downloads (tracks and albums). Generally the albums are priced less than the CD counterparts, and you don't have to pay for shipping. (You also save a trip to the vets office)
These mp3's are DRM free, I can just copy them to SD cards and put that in my mp3 playwr.
There is a lot of talk here on slashdot about other digital formats (FLAC , OGG) but I have never seen a digital music player that supports those formats (only MP3 and WMA . The other formats may have better compression, but who cares when HD space is so cheap.

what chaell your decoder is set to, not whether you are actually there watching it. If you are one of their customers you should make sure that when you are out, or sleeping, or trolling slasdot, it is set to some random channel to confuse them.
I will buy books in electronic format as long as they are considerably cheaper than the paperback alternative (including s&h) and I can read them on my computer without having to buy either expensive hardware like the Kindle, or specialised proprietary software. So I want books costing $5 to $6 in HTML , PDF or other standard format. Baen books does that, I wish more publishers did.
Sure a portable reader is more convenient, but in my case I don't have as much need for it. I walk to work, so reading on public transport is not an issue, and I personally don't read while sitting on the toilet. My day job is only part time, so I only have a lunch break one day a week. My full time job is a night shift that doesn't officially have a meal break, and during the downtimes between rounds we are likely to be interrupted by call-lights, so reading a novel is not easy. magazines are ok.
I for one welcome our benevolnt overloads...

An OFF switch
I mean a real, cuts off the AC current off switch. TV's used to have them 20 -30 years ago.
Power used while switched off = 0 watts.
Its winter. There is no such thing as 'waste heat'. Every watt emitted by a computer is a watt that doesn't have to be emitted by the heater.
Yul Brunner was not available for comment
Hispanic would be the most appropriate term.
Bugs? Have the arachnids reached the moon already? Call out the mobile infantry...

Not so good for terrestrial life forms, but the inhabitants of Venus (if there are any) might like it.

Hydrogen is a power source, just bang a couple of atoms together with enough velocity and you get Helium + a lot of enrgy.
However we have not yet developed a working fusion reactor.
We'll just have to use the nearest one we can find, its only 93 million miles away, and has enough hydrogen to keep going for a few billion years.
So now the robot head is madly in love with Xev ...
Sorry I can't remember the robots name/number.
Xev of course loves Kai, the (dead) last of the Brunen-Gee

"there's no simple answer for humidity."
Move somewhere where the climate is drier and cooler.
The outside air here currently has a dewpoint of -6c and the temperature is -2C
