Balmer: We just cut the department completely. Now instead of letting the users just test the beta, we send them the alpha, make them pay for the beta, then release the final a couple service packs down the road!

I see no problem researching possible threats. And obviously, you can't know the outcome of an experiment by previouse experiments. Who knows if the previouse were doing something wrong, escpecially in something so economical...coughconspiracycough.

It is nice that the ads show relavent content, but, isn't that the point of gator and the others...to track your browsing habits to give you relavent content? I don't see how this adbar varies from spyware, besides it doesn't send any statistics back...but it does, as a page query for the iframe or whatever. Knowing that, how does it differ from spyware?

maybe it has to do with the information that your sending from your irc client. such as, the ip lookup method and whatnot. How would it be possible to traceback an ip through a proxy? If you're using the http connect method, the proxy is acting as a tcp/ip tunnel...nothing more. There would have to bee voodoo involved to get the ip. Maybe they weren't using the connect method...maybe it was a socks proxy or something...which I know nothing of how they work.

  16. Re:Huh? on Cooling a Digital Camera? · · Score: 1

If you want some real cooling potential, you need to get to the CCD (take the camera apart). You should be able to stick something right on the back of it or at least near it on the opposite side of the PCB.

You could always try taking the plastic cover of the camera off, then make a box or tube to put the remaining of the camera in. Then you can attach an A/C unit's output too it. If you had something like a dehumidifier or an A/C unit, where the air passed over the coils, you'd be much better off since it would catch all the water vapor.

Liquid nitrogen might give you problems. When I took my G5 apart, the electronics were so packed near the CCD, I don't think luquid nitrogen could be used without freezing the caps and whatnot, which might change their values to an inoperable point (my rio would spazz when I'd go up skying because of this).

If you don't have access to liquid nitrogen, or don't want that kind of freezing potential, you could stick some dry ice in acetone. Acetone has a very low freezing point, so, it will get down to the temperature of the dry ice. Plenty cold :) You could feed the acetone through pipes to a heatsink very easily. If you do this, try to get acetone with the least amount of water as possible (like from a paint store). Acetone fingernail polish remover usually has a lot of water in it, turning the liquid into a slush. Could always freeze the water in it, then filter out the ice chunks ;)

    have fun!
