I still think that would be a very annoying solution. I want to feel like I have control over what I'm doing. If my cursor is waving around it's just going to turn me off from the game.
So it's more realistic to "miss" a point blank shot to the head than for it to not kill after one shot? I think it'd be more annoying to miss a shot I obviously should have made.
Gamers dont make good game designers. When you look at a lot of the so called "problems" with the game most of them make sense within the context of the whole game's design. It may seem silly out of context that shooting someone in the head doesn't kill them. But you shouldn't be able to kill something with one hit if you have no biomods to increase your skill with that weapon. Otherwise what's the point of having biomods at all? And if you got rid of biomods, you'd have even more people complaining that they dumbed the game down or oversimplified it (except this time they'd be right). The interface is cool and I think it helps with game immersion, better than a rectangle at the bottom at the very least. I do think the inventory management needs work though.
I think console gamers will think the game is too PC-ish. For example, can you imagine having to aim at and pick up items with a gamepad? Sounds like a pain in the ass.
It is kinda funny that they mention Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind though, because the writer of that movie (Charlie Kaufman) also wrote a screenplay adaptation of A Scanner Darkly.
Unfortunately there's not very many, as I said it's not just Nintendo that's doing it. But, the reason Nintendo gets flak is because they take so long to do it. If you release a game, then release the sequel 2 years or less later, very few people will complain that the majority of the gameplay is the same. But when you get up to 5, 6, 7 years later.. people are going to think, "what the hell took so long, for this?"
I don't think anyone is saying that the game hasn't progressed at all. They're just saying not enough. And I agree. The game is great, I love it, but there's no good reason this took 7 years to arrive. I don't see anything other than the graphics that couldn't be accomplished on the n64 or possibly even the SNES. This is not a problem unique to nintendo, most games this generation don't seem to be taking full advantage of the hardware.. but it's still disappointing in a way and is a valid criticism worth making. Just don't mistake criticizing a game for disliking a game.
I know people (especially slashdot nerds) love to trash on anything related to professional sports, but let's actually think about this for a second. Becoming a professional athlete is not an easy thing to do. It's not just "throwing a ball," it's hours of training every day. And even with all the training in the world, there's still no guaruntee that you'll even get in the gate, even less that you'll become a highly paid star. Injuries come pretty often as well, which will put a stop to any career you had going.
They're taking a bigger risk than most people ever take by deciding to devote their life to something that can so easily go wrong. In my opinion they do deserve to be rewarded for taking that risk. I don't enjoy sports, I don't watch them, but logically it makes sense to me for professional athletes to get paid a lot. Same with movie stars. The reward is proportional to the risk.
When games cost 20 dollars new, I won't mind if they're only 5 or 6 hours long. At 50 bucks, it's just not worth it. Max Payne 2 is a really great game, but it is not worth 50 dollars because of it's length. Bring it down to 25 or less and short, quality-packed games are A-OK with me.
The thing I always hated about MMORPGs is they were all set in that tolkien-rip-off universe with elves and dwarves and good and bad magic, that's completely uninteresting to me. I suppose SWG also has those types of elements, but it does a better job hiding them so I enjoy it. It's not perfect, but it's the first MMORPG to get my attention for more than a glance. I don't even like the Star Wars movies much, but it's fun to play in that universe.
Actually in the movie Gattaca there are similar laws, it's just that the corporations don't pay attention to them(and get away with it). If you don't think that will happen in reality as well.. I think you're wrong.
Know what makes a better general purpose Linux box than the xbox? A PC! I can understand getting Linux on the xbox because you like tinkering or you have too much free time. For the same reason I can equally understand doing it on the gamecube. But I can't understand someone using any console as if it's a PC. What's the point?
"tons of people who would never run Windows" There are tons of them? Seems like a pretty insignificant percent of consumers last time I checked.
The fact is, people will see the PS2 as 99 dollars and the xbox as 180, regardless of extra costs of necessary components, or older, slower hardware.. that's not what people see when they're looking at the advertisements making up their minds. They see: ps2 99 dollars, vice city 20 dollars, SCORE.
I know, but it's not that big of a difference. A 20 dollar drop is not the kind of thing that I would think would cause a huge increase in demand. A twenty dollar difference wouldn't change my mind either way on a console purchase, and I'm pretty poor.
The thing is, people don't look at this. If they did, they would realize they were already getting a GC for 99$ plus a 50 dollar game before the price cut. Now they're getting a GC for 99$ and they'll almost definitely buy a 50 dollar game to go with it(and probably one of the games that they were "bundling" with the cube). It just seems kind of silly to me that anyone would rush out to buy a Cube now, because of the price cut.
Actually the XIII single player demo has that bug on a lot of people's systems, LCD monitor or not. The work-around is to press alt-enter to play in windowed mode. Obviously this shouldn't be an issue at all and likely gives many users a bad impression. (the fact that once I got the demo in a playable state it wasn't any fun didn't help either:P )
Decide for yourself. If you want to take it as a joke, you'll probably enjoy it more. If you want to take it seriously, you're free to do that too. Why do you need an "official" decision either way? Do you have to read plot summaries after you watch a movie to make sure you enjoyed it the "right" way?
Um.. they basically said they're not releasing any games this year. Perfect Dark Zero will most likely be an XBox 2 game since I doubt they'd want to repeat their n64 mistakes (releasing big games too late in the console cycle to really make it worthwhile). So we've got a suped up n64 port(conker), Kameo, and GbtG this generation. Woo. I'm sure Nintendo is real upset they don't have Rare anymore.
I hate to break it to you, but those don't sound like fun games at all. I think a GTA clone is the perfect idea for a Simpsons game. You get to explore the town, see all the characters and interact with them, possibly re-enact certain episodes. I haven't played Hit & Run, so I don't know how well it was executed, but the idea has the most potential of any Simpsons game idea.

Played them and hated them :)

That's not how I remember it.

Movies can take years to produce and the end product is two hours long.

It's MacGyver, not McGyver.. how ignorant can you be! :P
If Windows NT could do it, what's to stop someone from copying what NT did?
Umm.. Killing stuff is fun. If a game is well made, it doesn't need to be unique to attract fans.. look at Halo.
