I'm not sure what the actual question is. While both of these are geared toward instrumentation control they are very versatile.

There is the key. If an industry advertises A LOT there is a good (99%) chance it is a lucrative endeavor (ripoff). The prime example is auto insurance. Executed efficiently it is a no-brainer money making scheme. I mean how can a business afford THAT much advertising? Advertising is expensive and travel sites buy enormous amounts of ad time.

  10. That would be a great analogy if I had to go through John, Nancy, Fred, and Martha's yards to get to Kroger or Publix. But I don't. You know why? Because the government decided to build roads. They bought the land and built the infrastructure that we all use to get around. Then they put rules in place on how those roads could be used and created an enforcement group to police them. Well in this case the government licensed the road to a few companies with the agreement that they would install the road (internet superhighway) to every home far and wide. They didn't and gave lame excuses why they couldn't but refuse to cede control of the roads and the government isn't asking them to. All while acting like they are doing you and me a favor by letting us use "their" road. This is why the internet needs to be placed under a government mandated monopoly and strict traffic rules put in place. I hate government overreach but I hate Comcast more.

I started using Waterfox years ago because Firefox didn't have a 64 bit browser out yet and I wanted the benefit 64 bit could bring. I keep using it because quite frankly I still need certain NPAPI plugins and as of FF 53 your SOL if you need them. Sure I can download the ES version but then I'd be stuck on an old version without access to any new updates. I like it enough that I even started using it on my Mint laptop. Waterfox strips out all of the telemetry and data collection and keeps NPAPI available should you need it. That said I have Chrome and Maxthlon browsers loaded as well and frequently pit them against each other. I like features of each but I always end up back at Waterfox. I just installed Opera to give it a try again and it loaded smooth and looked very polished. Then I tried to import my bookmarks and it crashed and now crashes when I try to launch it. Not a very good first impression.

  22. Re:maybe he needs to look in a mirror? on John Oliver Gets Fired Up Over Net Neutrality, Causes FCC's Site To Temporarily Crash (fortune.com) · · Score: 5, Insightful

Google does it, Netflix does it, and any ISP that isn't trying to push their own video offering embraces these caches because it reduces the load on their network without them having to invest in more transport.

And this is where the problem lies. Netflix offered to host their "cache" called a Content Delivery Network (CDN) on Comcast's network which would benefit both companies as far as bandwidth was concerned. Comcast refused to let them unless they paid Comcast to put their equipment on Comcast's network. Comcast was also throttling Netflix traffic on their network. Why? Comcast On Demand. Once Netflix paid the ransom traffic suddenly normalized. An ISP should not be allowed to also offer content or internet service should be regulated. This doesn't fall under free market because Comcast is using government granted right of ways for its cabling that smaller ISPs do not have.
