Computers (specifically x86 based PCs) have been "sufficient" for the bulk of computing tasks for close to ten years now. The power race has given way to the low power consumption race. Historically electronic devices were built for a specific purpose and programmed to do just one task. The PC was envisioned and designed to be general purpose because the average household could not afford an electronic word processor AND game system AND spreadsheet AND etc. Now that x86 hardware is a commodity the switch to special purpose devices for the consumer is progressing. I suspect we will be seeing more and more devices with an x86 core that have nothing to do with being a PC.
So now pirate is going to be used for anyone using something for nothing? Or are they saying that thousands of Brazilians are actively terrorizing the high Seas?
I've been flamed for this stance before but I stand by it. Humans are selfish by nature. Thus we try to make every decision we make benefit us even to the detriment of society as a whole. We can of course override that predisposition and there are decisions which have either short or long term benefits/detriment depending on the choices. So if Quantum Theory causes us to be selfish then yes that may explain our decision making.
The bandwidth isn't that far away. If it were AT&T U-Verse and Verizon's FiOS couldn't work. With U-Verse I have 26Mbps/2Mbps to the house over UTP but their 2-Wire gateway only allows me to access 6Mbps/1.5Mbps of that for internet traffic. with that other 20Mbps I can stream 2 HD and 2 SD programs simultaneously. They are compressed of course but still good quality IMO. Although it is AT&T so once they reach market saturation who knows what kind of compression they will employ.
I started playing MapleStory last year but my son has been playing for several. "MapleStory is a free-of-charge, 2D, side-scrolling massively multiplayer online role-playing game". It's free to play but there are shops everywhere to buy stuff for the game to make it more interesting. It's great for casual gamers and serious alike. I don't get much down time to game so it's nice to have a MMORG that I can play for a couple of hours and maybe not pick up again for weeks or longer.
Maybe the biggest nail in the coffin for Netscape was twofold: Microsoft started bundling IE for free with Windows, and at a certain point IE started to eclipse Netscape in features and stability (shock, I know).
Those who fail to remember the past are doomed to repeat history class. That "certain point" was when AOL announced they would be partnering with Microsoft and their new AOL client would basically be a re-branded version of IE. At the time AOL was wildly popular and it instantly added approximately 1 million new IE users overnight. AOL went with IE to get real estate on the new Windows 95 desktop. AOL had been negotiating with both Microsoft and Netscape.
I'll assume by your terse response that you and those that modded you insightful have been wronged in the ISD where you went to school. It would appear that anger prevented you from actually comprehending the question (you did see the ? didn't you?). I abhor violence and I do not advocate "beating" anyone although I can't say I've never felt the urge to do so. That being said I still haven't had anyone answer my question and thus it remains. What other options are there?
There is a difference between playful misconduct and willful disobedience. Historically the former was handled with detention and the latter with corporal punishment. Since corporal punishment has all but been made illegal what tool do you use? Of course I did not RTFA but from the summary it appears she was being snarky and rebellious. If she had just handed over the phone she would have landed in detention and that would be the end of it. So we either arrest them for a misdemeanor or return the power to the teacher. Unless someone has a better idea. Anyone?
This answers many of my questions like why my RIM BB wallwart with the female USB A connector will charge most of my gadgets but not my Ipod Touch. It also explains why my old BB 7320 didn't need a driver to charge and my Curve 8310 does.
Most companies will skirt the law if they can improve/protect their bottom line. I remember "stories" of a large OEM that manufactured PCs who had a super fast bus technology they had patented. A certain large OEM that produced CPUs requested the specs so they could make sure their CPUs were optimized for the new bus. months later the PC OEM discovered motherboards with their bus being sold by CPU OEM in the Asian market. PC OEM threatened to sue. CPU OEM said that if they sued then they could no longer sell their CPUs to them directly and they would have to get them from a reseller agent. PC OEM licensed bus to CPU OEM.
What is this idiot planning to do, have a zillion megawatts/acre of grow lights on all the lower levels?
Perhaps this idiot is planning to harness the power of the sun like every other farmer does. Maybe he even has a technology already at his disposal that would make it feasible and cost effective.

I was thinking along the same line
1) Web Browser
2) JAVA
3) Adobe FLASH (Sorry Silverlight)
Things have been moving in this direction for a while. Even the next version of MS Office is supposed to be a web app.
I wonder if Ballistic: Field Tactical Edition ($9.99) is as good? I know....at 1/3 the price the military would never go for it.

Any project of this scale requires a LONG lead time. This is no exception. The project "started" in 2005 when it made worlds of sense.
disclaimer - I work for FPL (although this is the first I've heard of this project)
"If you ever see a game console that uses a rip-off PS2 controller, run the other way. FAST."
You mean like the PS3?

Perhaps I am the exception to the rule but every machine I have ever used (and I've used a bunch) boots faster than it comes out of hibernation.
I'm stocking up on my bennigan's coupons just in case.
There are still Bennigan's open?
Jesus Christ
I see what you did there....

I am going to register all the big name URL's during the split. That way when the other half rejoins I'll have OPS!
