Michigan has a 10 cent deposit on it's cans and bottles.

I used to buy cans in neighboring states that didn't have deposits (like Indiana) then turn them in at a store in MI for $.10 a can. This worked until the stores started getting machines that scanned the bar code on the can.

The 'new' home page for 0.7 is pretty much lacking in useful information. It has no install notes or instructions like with previous builds. I assume I should just delete my old Firebird directory and profile and start new like with older builds, but this is not spelled out anywhere on the new page. Waaaayyy back in 1987-89 while attending Indiana State University and getting my B.S. in Computer Science I got the opportunity to co-op for three semesters at Crane Naval Weapons Center near Bloomington Indiana.

It was a pretty interesting experience. The place was huge! Once I got thru the front gate I had another 5 mile drive thru rolling hills and woods before getting to building in which I worked.

I actually don't remember much of what I did, most of it was maintenance on old COBOL based systems the DoD used for inventory management within the Navy. The people I worked with were pretty cool though. Used to have some mean games of spades with some mathematician/statistics guys during lunch.

One of the oddest things was the overtime pay. In the fall my manager would come to me and say "Do you want to work some overtime? We have this overtime budget that we need to spend or we won't get approved for it next year." So regardless of what my workload was (usually pretty light) I would work a few Saturdays here and there for the extra $.

They offered me a full time position upon graducation, but the pay rate just wasn't there. Besides there were a lot of rumors floating about that the base was going to close or the operations like the IT dept. getting moved somewhere else.

"It's not something that you would set up as the default, so that every document I would create is rights management protected," he said. No cubicles or walls, just quadrants of desks in a huge room. Even the president and senior-level managers have their desks out in the open just like everyone else.
Fortunately, the IT dept. is on a different floor and doesn't have to really share space with other departments, even though we still use the quadrant system. I got lucky in that I have a corner quadrant and my back is to the wall. Also I work with some great people. Working in this kind of office you really get a chance to hone your concentration skills, because there are lots of times where you need to 'turn out' what is going on around you in order to get some actual work done.
