  2. How about a mid priced electric that isn't lame? on Why Fuel Efficiency Advances Haven't Translated To Better Gas Mileage · · Score: 3, Interesting

There are a few higher end electrics that are cool, but for some reason the lower end ones are just totally plain or awkward looking. Can't we get some nice car design going? Do all electrics have to look like expanded eastern european leftovers?

While we're at it why not fund a federal project to put light rail everywhere there is an interstate highway. A new New Deal.

  3. Sounds like he is looking for an outsourcing deal on Indian Minister Seeks To Censor User-Generated Content Online · · Score: 1

  4. The problem with cheap tablets.... on Sub-$100 Android 4.0 Tablet Coming Soon · · Score: 1

The problem with cheap tablets is that they are cheap tablets. The same issues carry over from cheap notebooks. When lowering the entry price point you also lower the quality of the components and build of the item. I get frustrated by these "races to the bottom."

  5. What i'd like on TV Isn't Broken, So Why Fix It? · · Score: 1

I want to have just the shows I want to see available on whatever normal release schedule the studio has, commercial free, on any device I own in the optimal resolution. I want them to still be available if I miss several shows. To that point it is all similar to what Apple provides on Apple TV. The kicker is that I want all of that without paying per show. I don't mind paying per month. Once I watch a show I don't need to watch it again so I have no desire to own them. The price does need to compare reasonably to current cable pricing (and yes I realize the advertising subsidy is part if that).

What frustrates me about Apple's offering is the high price per show vs subscription.
What frustrates me about online viewing is that older episodes disappear or the viewer is awful with odd forced ads that sometimes mess up the playback.
What frustrates me about on-deman viewing via my cable company is the poor UI and lock-in to my cable box.

So yes there is plenty of room there to fix TV.

  6. Yes we do! on Why America Doesn't Need More Tech Giants Like Apple · · Score: 1

If more people designed like Apple we would not have any many un-attractive poorly designed consumer products. ;) Though we need design as well as manufacturing. We also need less government restrictions on medical research. If we don't do it someone else well.

  15. Re:You don't - thumbs up! on Dollar Apps Killing Traditional Gaming? · · Score: 1

The days of overpriced crap console games at a fixed 60$/hit are coming to an end. Time to look for gameplay and quality but steamline cost. No more "ages of war 2, 3, 4, 5 etc" as an easy revenue stream. Eventually the apps will whittle down as well just like podcasts did. The proverbial wheat from the chaff separation and we end up with lower cost higher quality gaming options.

The silver lining may be that the optimization that will happen will set a foundation for a huge burst of innovation once people spend again.

The reason they are looking to apply this tax is not because they actually want to it is because economic issues have caused budget shortfalls. In this situation they start to look for "lost or new revenue" which in entertainment industry terms translates to "piracy" and in government terms translates to "creative new taxes."

Then of course we all know this lady is a nut anyway. ;) Maybe instead she can create a lawyer tax. Every time a lawyer brings a lawsuit to court they are taxed 10-20% of their legal fees and they can't require the client to pay it. Want to bring medical costs down? Fix malpractice suits. The issue with trying to leave the keyboard is the people that are totally used to it and can type fast are comfortable with seeking out the actual letters when laid out keyboard style. Change those locations and it becomes counter intuitive.
