This setup does work. We have such a system at work so we can show stereo stuff to a large audience with cheap polarized glasses. (Instead of more expensive LCD glasses).
The trick is to have a videocard that supports clone mode stereo, such as a Quadro card, and software that supports stereo.
Well, we did mount two off them on a frame along with mirrors to give us a stereo display. To drive them, we use a 4 machine linux cluster. Each display allows up to 4 inputs, so we connect each monitor to two machines. The cards used are NVidia Quadro 3000G, which provide genlock. One of those could be driven from one ouput, but at full resoluiton, one dvi channel only allows enough bandwidth to drive the monitor at about 10hz. Using 4 inputs allows us to go to its maximum of 42Hz.
Stereo scenes look amazing in this setup. The only issue is the ghosting we sometimes see due to the slow response of the pixels, but it hasn't been a big issue for us.
So, if you are looking for a stereo display approaching the eye's "visual resolution", two of those will do the trick!

IVS, a Canadian company has been selling a visualization package, Fledermaus, for over 10 years that includes a flying mouse called a bat. This package is aimed at hydrography and ocean exploration.
The Permedia 2, as far as I know, is also the only consumer level card that properly supports OpenGL stereoscopic viewing. Not like the poorly hacked stereo available on some GeForce cards today. I know that not too many gamers use stereo, but for 3d data visualization, stereo can be very useful when done right. The Permedia 2 provided good data vis capabilities and gaming capabilities on a budget even a student could afford!
The problem is that us HB-1 holders are attempting to go thru the process of obtaining a green card. I got here 8 months ago, and was warned to start right away on the process of getting the green card if I wanted a chance at obtaining it by the end of 6 years... The problem is not that the H1B is temprary, but that the system to obtain a green card is jammed solid.

It already runs Linux...

>>my car comes with the ability to do 150mph, but the chips lets me go to 120... whats the legal wrinkle there?
>The car company doesn't want to see you dead, perhaps?
A company that cares for it's customers???? Impossible! They are most likely worried about lawsuits because the tires might only be rated for 120mph.
This page explains what XP is, yet after reading it, I'm more confused...
They must have written this using the eXtreme Writing technique.
Hey! I don't throw like a girl!
Girls throw better than me...

Why do they need permission from the US?
Why did the quebecois have to steal the "poutine" name from a traditional Acadian dish? Don't they have any creativity? Here's a real poutine!
Join Canada'a army! Then you will be part of an "Army of about Eight"
It's not a less decent monitor, it's a monitor with built-in natural anti-aliasing!

Maybe Segway 2.0 will come with optional traction control and ABS...
Of course, you will need a monitor that does 120Hz at that resolution. A good 21 inch might do 120Hz at 1280X1024.
Mmmmm.... Chien-chaud!
He had to change his mind, given the state motto...
