Anime fansubbing has been going on for YEARS. I first say Dragon Ball quite a few years ago on a pirate fansub and even tho the quality was shit it made me a fan of the series, majority of the anime I started to watch was brought to me via pirated fansubs on VHS from a friend of a friend or a little shop in Chinatown that sold them.
No matter what you want to think the fansub community has established huge fanbases for these series, if even a small portion of those hundreds of thousands of people downloading anime buy the DVDs thats still revenue, Revenue from fans that wouldnt even exist or know about the show if it wasnt for the fansubbers.
As well this doesnt even include all the rest of the merchandise that appears from these shows being licensed. The companies recognize the power of the fansubbers, imo they give them a rough time from time to time because the law says they should.
While I enjoyed the onslaught levels of UT2004 they definately seemed too small to make real use of the cool vehicles that had been introduced. with some of the flying vehicles being very fast it seemed a waste to have them in such a small area.
Sounds like they are taking the ideas of Tribes and Planetside with the larger levels with hot spots to make the onslaught game more enjoyable. Sounds like a good idea to me.
It seems everyday some crap like this comes up, 4 years in a chinese prison, HOT DAMN. Then there is the bill that Dubya signed into law.. up to 3 years on that one..
IP laws, DMCA, RIAA, MPAA, levies and taxes on recordable media, jail time, huge fines??? Man we are on the slope right now.. and it seems to be near frictionless I just want to know where did this BS start and who to shoot in the face, if I go to jail who cares, I'll be bunkin with a guy who uploaded Spiderman 2.
A few other items of note regarding the "Honor System"
The rankings you recieved are determined on how you stack up to other players and there contribution points. As well only the top tier of PVPs will have the fancy name and fancy gear that looks pretty.
From what we have read that might be 10 or 100 people on the entire server with the top tier of gear (depending on population) and yea these will be the guys who play all the time(for whatever reason, not judging here)
If you dont continue to preform well in PVP you can lose your ranking (ranks are tallied every week) that can effectively drop a casual player out of the running along with the fact we just dont have time to rack up the points.
Some people are sore about that. Along with the problems that have resulted with the introduction of this system (Lag and making questing in Hillsbrad impossible)
I just want the lag fixed and the uber gank squads to slow and maybe have Hillsbrad returned to the Mildly annoying deathtrap it was before instead of the insta dead trap it is now.
I could careless about the rewards the low end rewards which alot of people will have are decent, and the high end stuff is armor and a mount, some not even comparible to really good instanced dungeon drops. As well they have a unique look which along with your title saying Warlord or whatever you get flagged for instant beating. (Everyone concentrate on the Warlord) I dont care how l33t in PVP you are, you will stick out like a sore thumb with your fancy armor I will target you first just because and alot of people will too.
If no one has posted this site (which pretty sure gets linked every time video game music gets mentioned) then I'll do so http://www.ocremix.org/ Tons of great video game songs, remixed with different themes.
Not that I have been following the games development much but I would have expected forgotten realms as the setting, Eberron is a pretty cool setting with a nice mix of magic and science.
Considering that weekly fansubs and scanlations of Naruto are still being done (decent quality too) I doubt that they will be stopping anytime soon.
Been buying the VIZ translation of Naruto, its been alright definately want to smack some of the translation decisions that were made (Byakugan being called Evil Eye... ) definately want to see how the subtitles of the anime go on the official DVDs before I start buying them.
Netspeak temporary? maybe, but considering the longevity of usenet and other text based enviroments I have a feeling we will be hearing OMGWTFBBQ for quite some time. I think video will be alot more prevelant on the net as well but if having video reduces a persons anonimity then people will still use the text.
You do realize, that "The Grudge" aka Ju-On was orginally Japanese to begin with, the director was the same director of the orginal as well alot of cast members from the Japanese movie where in the american version. Just thought I would throw that little bit of food for thought at ya. I applaud Sam Raimi for his choice to keep the story in Japan.
Personally I think it is a good idea, but so many just hear the word union and think of long running unions that do more bad than good. What will be going on here (hopefully) is a completely new union run by people who actually want to make the work conditions better for the employee, much like the orignal trade unions before they become bloated fatcats themselves. People shouldnt be too quick to make the UNION=BAD association.
I take contract work because alot of the time its the only kind of work you can find. Alot of IT companies (at least in my experience) use headhunters to find them there employees after they post internally for positions.
during my stint with compaq which then became HP we where all paid alot less for the same type of work and worked 30min more than our badged counterparts. Tho we where an exception since we did have some benefits and vacation/sick time through our contracting company but from what I hear now from that alot of that is gone.
I dont know "in my situation" who decided how much the contractors where to be paid but we made seriously less than the full time HP employees, and we where full time employees and these contracts were not 3 or 6 month deals.. we where told up front that you where going to be kicking around for years. (mind you this when when it was still compaq and getting badged still happened back then)
If we got higher wage then I wouldnt complain. my guess is the Boise people started out as lower paid compaq contractors who where use to seeing people get badged, but got screwed.(like the rest of us contractors) when the merger happened.
I wouldnt doubt it, tho the contracting company we where with was the exclusive one compaq used here in Calgary, when HP took over the compaq fulltimers became HP fulltimers then things really started to get weird. There was some hoopla in canada regarding something called the MSP and some crap with Adecco and some other stuff.. i dont remember it all i just recall my sore ass.
I did the same with compaq/Hp but as for who to be pissed at for the pay discrepency between the full time and contract employees is a bit muddled.
Personally I was with a IT contracting company that did provide us with benefits,2 week vacation and 4 paid sick days.. and they had us working for compaq.. which then became HP. The HP fulltimers who did the same job as us.. sometimes poorer (depending on the employee) made more than double we did plus HP employee benefits.. definately a sore point amongst the contractors, but we also knew our contracting company took a nice cut of what HP paid them for us.. (was like 30%) now sure that 30% didnt even come close to making us on par with HP fulltimers but it does have to be looked at. How much of the screwjob is HP and how much is your contracting company?
A lesson that folks at Square(SquareEnix) learned the hard way.

That means its off to a great start :P

I seriously thought it had died already I havent heard a freakin peep about the game forever. I hear more about Shadowbane than I do about AC2 .
So, does it still suck?
You cold hearted bastards have just sent this man to his death.. hope your happy.

If by opening scene you mean as soon as Jar Jar appeared then I agree fully.

Off topic but your going to have to explain how you found WoW more tedious than EQ.
I'm sure they will be very swayed that Heywood Jeyblome cares about his privacy.

yup, sadly .. so hopefully with a union made up of cheetos eating, Mt Dew drinking nerds there will be less testosertone induced bullshit.
hey a scab deserves what he gets :P
