OOhh hardcore.. would not be the best business move to impliment a game where you end up unable to play your character for days, that isnt fun and that is why most people play games.
But this is all speculative anyways. I could see the user base of this game being full of little fucktards tho. But that can either be enforced by other ingame rules and the player/npc police force. If your character is sitting at 6 stars (hypothetical since we have no idea what to expect) but lets say he's at "6 stars" he isnt going to be able to go anywhere without NPC cops or PLayer cops coming down on him.
I dont think this would be worth playing if it was a level based game, go skill and factional based.
Yes playing the fuzz has to be a part of the game. with different guidlines and rules for players who are cops.
Jail time counting.. yea.. just not in the way you have suggested.. Sorry nobody wants to watch there character sit in a jail cell for a few hours, not sure if the penalities for failure (death?) should be much worse than WOW. The more time taken away from you actually being able to play the game the worse it gets...
Unless Jail in itself was a big part of the game world and you could work up skills and faction within the Jail enviroment while you are stuck there. Have it a separate chunk of character progression, including having fellow players bust out other players if need be. "Tony is on death row.. we gotta bust him out"
Dont underestimate the Korean cyber cafes. That is where the majority of these subscriptions come from.. and I'll wager a guess that companies like IGE (who are a item/gold farming sweatshop) own a huge chunk of accounts as well for these games.
Yea the story definately has alot of scope to it, not something that you can capture in a 2 hour movie..
I can see it turning out alot like the Battle Angel anime, where it just goes up to Yugo's death, without alot of meat in the middle. I doubt they will go into much with Desty Nova and his creations, or anything where Alita is doing Motorball.
So what happened from open beta where they where stating they had 500,000 signups and for the most part (with less servers) had very little problems (I only recall a few times where there was a queue to get into a server but that was when other servers were down)
Now they have more servers but the queues are really bad to get into alot of them.. what happened, did the open beta numbers of people playing online at one time never hit 100,000?
or does Lusternia sound like a porno set in medevil times..

So you give kids levels faster... ok sure. But remember this is DAOC, a huge point of the game is RVR combat. Levels are only a small part of the RVR equation. All this is is cutting down a little bit of one treadmill so people can focus on the other treadmill.. oh did we mention the other treadmill involves your greenhorn character getting his ass pounded by over and over again by other players who have more Realm Abilities and all sorts of other goodies that only killing in RVR combat can gain. Sure you got to 50 faster great.. but when your facing that guy who has more Realm Ranks than you do you can guarentee that you'll be taking a trip back to the bind stone asap.
You still have to keep up with the Jones after you "finish" leveling. Full spellcrafted gear, artifacts, realm levels and whatnot.
Unless you are playing on Ghaeris(the coop server) not alot of difference will be there.
The name acclaim has never really been linked with creating good games. These guys have been snapping up movie and television licenses for years and have been producing shitty games based on these said licenses.Just take a look at the crap they putout with the Simpsons name. They never had the power to actually create anything worthwhile and just used the Movie names to bring in the sales. Now in the light that you actually can create a decent game out of a movie license (See Spiderman 2 and Chronicals Of Riddick) companies who actually want to make a game out of their movie will go to a group with Talent.
It could be considered propaganda, sure but considering that a very small portion of the public will ever actually play Ghost Recon 3 the effect of it being propaganda is greatly lessened, even more if the people playing it realize that it is make believe.

I enjoyed it as well, it was my first exposure to Battle Angel Alita, but I really enjoyed the manga alot more.
