I have conflicting feelings about this. I am all for free speech and I love games that try and tell a story. I get honoring our sons who fight in war with a medium that they enjoy.
In this case, however, I'm wondering if it's the proper time for something like this. It almost seems tacky to create a game based on the battles of soldiers who are still around and still fighting.
I know that we have world war 2 games and vietnam games, but those conflicts are over with and done with. There are soldiers still over there fighting these battles and maybe that's why i feel this decision by Konami might be on okay thing.
I don't agree with making movies about a war during the time of war, either. I feel there is a time and place, and normally these things should be at least a decade after the conflict has ended.
I know we didn't have that long after vietnam ended, and it seems more and more studios try and push out content based on our wars faster and faster.
I know I don't feel right about this, I think people should be able to come back and have time to heal before being bombarded with war movies and war games based on what they did.
Had Square released a rip of FF7 on the PSP, I would have gotten it asap.
Also, Sony only lets you download PSX games through your PS3, and I don't want to pay 600 bucks for the privelege.
If they had released a PC client, and FF7, I'd not have had to hack my PSP.
The issue is they don't offer the stuff we users actually want. Since it's possible to rip my old PSX games to my PSP, and the games I want to play (vagrant story, FF7, etc) I was left with the option of buying games I don't want or getting what I wanted for free.
if they can adjust speed of fermentation and can actually change the flavor of beer, this could mean a whole new market of beer flavors we haven't had the change to try!
Imagine a skunky stout, or a crisp and light porter. . .
We had a similar cyber attack here in columbus, ohio. A disgruntled employee (it is thought) shot the fiber backbone for Time Warner with a.22. I don't believe they ever caught the guy who did this. This one action disrupted the internet for hundreds of companies and thousands of users. It took around 3 days to get the internet back up for everyone.
This was just one fiber cable, imagine if someone had purposely cut lines downtown?
The stuff is very centralized and not well protected.
There needs to be better protection against these sorts of actions, and there needs to be a backup plan in place in case something like this does happen.
I think my main issue has been with TAs that are disinterested, overworked, and who have no idea how to teach. They just glaze over what syllabus the professor gives them and they regurgitate that info to you, and then you need to regurgitate that back to the professor in the form of tests.
Another annoyance I have is english as a second language TAs in many of my classes. This makes it incredibly hard to understand them and very hard to ask questions.
I would rather have a recording of the professor I can rewind and also learn from the book. I passed my economics class by sleeping through the entire thing and just recording it. I'd sleep through the lecture as I only got 4 hours of sleep each night because of the 2 jobs I worked; so I'd sit way in the back, turn on the recorder and wake up at the bell. I'd listen to that tape while driving the forklift at work and passed my econ class without ever being awake in a lecture!
I really think it is time that technology is used to lessen the costs of college and to broaden its reach. Sure, there are classes out there that have to be hands on, but the vast majority of stuff you do in college is pretty much vomiting up facts that were tossed at you.
I think the college system is really showing its age. . . .
I know from personal experience I have learned very little in college. I found the entire process just a regurgitation of meaningless facts. I have yet to graduate, however I am starting some classes this year to hopefully get that stupid piece of paper.
I feel the high prices of colleges and universities are unwarranted when most of the teaching is done by TAs and not the professor themselves. I found my college experience was go to class, go over what I was assigned to read the day before, learn nothing but was in the book, and then do it again.
Critical thinking, problem solving, getting to the grit of the understanding was never pushed in any class I took. It was always this process:
1) read chapter at night 2) listen to TA read chapter back to us in the morning and assign next chapter 3) regurgitate information on test 4) profit!
I wish I could find a college that actually challenged me to learn new ways of thinking, or challenged me to do something other than memorization.
It seems the professor has seen this process and said 'hey, we aren't teaching you anything anyways, so you might as well just get it without having to show up to class'. I can whole heartedly agree with this sentiment. Virtual classes are just as good as having a know nothing TA try and teach a concept they just learned the year before.
The vast majority of people in the US do not want nuclear power plants near them. The vast majority of areas restrict coal burning power plants from being built in the US. Wind turbine farms are still not a reality in much of the country.
Where is all the power going to come from to power all of these electric cars?
Won't this put a huge load on the power grid?
I'm seriously asking these questions because I do not know the answer . . .
So he's defending AT&T which by all accounts just did what the government asked and not illegally, so i can see that. But, he is also defending the policy of using the executive order in the first place based on national security issues.
Now that he's in office, could he actually be seeing the same issues Bush saw? The same issues we are shielded from knowing about due to national security?
Maybe, just maybe, there was a reason for these wire taps.
Maybe, Bush, was right about something?
Or is someone completely on the other side of the political fence agreeing with Bush just to make all of his supporters angry for no reason?
I have my CDs, I don't have the receipts showing I bought the game when it came out, so they will not reset the steam account to a different email address, even though I have the physical media and emailed them pictures.
I am going to post this because I have seen so many people complain about system requirement issues in warhammer.
There is a CUSTOM button in your preferences for graphics.
If you click this button, you can do the following: You can set spell abilities to off, yourself, your party, or everyone. You can adjust the buffer to use more of your cards RAM (this is set to 0 by default but moving the slider 3/4 of the way speeds the game up immensely for me). You can change the resolution. You can change the way shadows are displayed. You can adjust the detail level of the textures in the game.
I run a 2.4 ghz dual core intel with 2 gb of ram and a 3870 vid card and the game runs fine. I've taken keeps with 4 warbands (thats 96 people folks) and have had some slowdown, but it was not a slideshow.
The game handles massive amounts of people very well, and adjusting your in game resolution settings should be a no brainer for anyone playing video games on their PC.
With all that said, i am VERY pleased to hear of the updates that are coming. A suicidal dwarf and a berzerking orc will be fun to get to play around with. Getting new lands? I'm still exploring the ones we have!
But yeah, this game is rocking along very well and I have to say, the devs have been really responsive on whats being done.
I have no complaints, and have absolutely no reason to get into another MMO with how fun this game has turned out to be.
I am already annoyed by the number of popups I see on youtube nowadays.
I rarely use the site anymore just because its so damn annoying having all those little bubbles overlaying my video clip. I know I can close them, but its just bothersome and annoying.
I wonder if this will be another nail in the coffin for the service?
I thought that Vanguard had gone the way of Tabula Rasa, but I guess I was mistaken. Is there anyone in the player base on slashdot? And if so, maybe you could explain how the game has progressed since the (reportedly) abysmal start it had.
"Yet a flood of discounted merchandise from liquidating Circuit City stores could hurt Best Buy during this holiday shopping season, said Jefferies & Co analyst Dan Binder"
I have to call bullshit on this one.
I was at the Circuit Cities that went out of business here in town less than a year ago. Those stores were still selling things like RAM at '10%' off prices that were inflated by any internet standards. Think 150 bucks for a 512 mg DDR2 stick! The prices of their televisions and computers were so high they were still on the floor when I went there after 2 days of them being part of a fire sale.
Honestly, I think the managers of the stores kept the prices high to buy them at a steal right before the store closed. I wouldn't be surprised if the same thing happens to the rest of the stores.
I could be wrong, it is after all speculation. . .
If you read the article you will see these inquirys were not done by logged IDs at specific agencies for a specific purpose, they were done by 'test IDs' which means someone was trying to hide their tracks.
Records show it was a "test account" assigned to the information technology section of the attorney general's office, said Department of Public Safety spokesman Thomas Hunter
If there was a legitimate reason to be accessing these records, you'd certainly think they wouldn't use a test account for it. . . .
I work tech for an insurance company and we have this ability for blackberrys, it has been extremely useful in the past to kill applications off a device when that devices security has been compromised.
In addition, wouldn't this give them the power to kill an app if it were virused?
What about an app that was designed with malicious intent to shut down the phone systems?
I mean I can see where we all have tinfoil hats, but sometimes this kind of legalize is necessary to give a company some headroom to protect its investment.
I agree with you wholeheartedly, I see some of the animation issues etc, but honestly they are not half as bad as with many current MMOs.
I'm sure these things will get ironed out over time. AOC had core gameplay mechanic problems and I think that left a lot of problems for devs at the beginning. Animations and models can be updated, core mechanics are tough to redo once the systems in place.
Now that Blizzcon is in full swing, I can look forward to every announcement by blizzard being slashdotted and front paged for the next few days. . . .

I hacked my PSP so I could play Final Fantasy 7.

tough decision. . .
Am I the only one that remembers the bad guys digitally changing the face of a guy who dies in the Running Man to be that of Arnold?
I find it interesting that we are now getting to the point where the future in sci fi films is becoming the reality. . .

so. . .
fuck you too
exact same problem I had, except I did have the receipts. . . but they were 5 years old so the ink was faded away. . .
its a ridiculous stipulation to require the receipt
I still can't play my half life 2 because my steam account is tied to an old email address that doesn't exist.
fuck them
'nuff said
I can imagine people who find crafting items in MMOs to have a lot of fun with this game.
I would suggest posting on warhammeralliance.com at the forums, and getting some help there so as not to derail this thread any further.

I have a LG Voyager, it is not supported.
So, if you have an LG phone plan on it not working. . .
I'm not sure if you could just install the java compatible one or not, but yeah, you'd think they'd support voyagers, they are rather popular phones.
