Easy: you can read everybodys numbers! It's a lot easier to follow a mass of people on the screen when you can tell people apart. Also - the names on their jerseys are much easier to read, although it's not always possible depending on the zoom level.
I still have a gripe in this regard. Each tab should really open in its own thread, so that its loading and rendering does not stall the whole interface. Drives me nuts when I start opening a bunch of new tabs (a la while looking at the slashdot front page or other forums) and then I have to sit through a stall before opening a new one. That's one spot where I definitely prefer Opera.
1) The 2 TFLOPS figure is commonly thought to be a big lie (or mistake), as a GeForce 6800 Ultra is capable of somewhere around 50-75 GFLOPS. This would mean a 50x performance increase between two generations, which seems very unlikely.
2) See www.gpgpu.org and you'll find that graphics cards can do some serious general-purpose number crunching.
In fact, Crucial has 4GB sticks. They're obscenely expensive though (~$3k), and are fairly slow - PC2100. Impractical, but worth a mention. The 2GB sticks are much more reasonable.
There are three types of DVI. DVI-D is digital (the standard for digital input to an HDTV... same thing as HDMI). DVI-A is analog, which should be easily convertable to component. DVI video cards output DVI-I, which carries both analog and digital. You can tell if you have analog support by looking at the keying on the connector (the big bar-shaped pin). If the keying pin is surrounded by 4 pins, you have analog.
Funny enough I ran into this once. Roxio Easy CD Creator 5 point something would leave a system nearly crippled if you rebooted before applying the patch. We actually had to wait something around a day for the machine to boot (and no, safe mode didn't help).
It seems that most sites (*ahem* gamespot) seem to only rate games from 70-95% anway (or 7.0 to 9.5 on the 1-10 scale). Clearly, they're pandering to the game publishers so they can still get pre-release stuff. But they really only use 25-30 points of their scale, so it's ok!:)
I've been playing Final Fantasy X the last week or two. The battle system is less "active" than in previous incarnations of the game. If you're in combat, the game will stop on your turn and wait as long as necessary for you to come back. You might miss a bad-guy turn or two leading up to your turn, but you can easily enough figure out what happened based on who in your party is still alive:)
If you're in the middle of a talking sequence, you'll still have to hit the pause button.
Well yep, I learned something about the school of rock today. Cut some slack though - they released Godzilla as Blue Oyster Cult, not Soft White Underbelly.:)
Agreed. I played on a mud called DragonStone (dragonstone.org) for years, and became an immortal after a while. Besides creating areas/items/monsters, I also did a bit of hardcore coding (anything from hunting down bugs to adding new features).
Hey, just a quick question along the "your tools" line (since I've never been able to figure this one out). How do you use your tools (Acrobat Distiller) to convert a PostScript into another file (PDF) that your tools (Acrobat) can read without the result looking like crap? For the life of me, I can never distill and get a file that looks anything like the original.
I really like the runner-up too. It would be interesting to hear why the winner was chosen over the second-place entry.
Now who ever thought they'd see politicians using the word "phishing", more or less putting it into a bill?

At least when we get the dupe, then we'll have one complete article!
Two slight clarifications:

I use GoDaddy for domain and email hosting. I have to say, their service is great and the price is just right.

The hi-def Comcast box isn't nearly as bad as the standard box. Doesn't even cost any more per month to get one!

Close ... Blue Oyster Cult. The title is, of course, "Godzilla".
Good song.
Yeah,
Apparently Endless Nights has a Slashdot reference in it! (Urg, too much reading to do with Endless Nights and Quicksilver!!!)

Fun stuff. Good times.
If you want multiple desktops on your windows machine, go to http://www.microsoft.com/windowsxp/pro/downloads/p owertoys.asp and download the "virtual desktop manager". It works alright most of the time.
But the real question is: will it translate English to 1337 so I can talk to my little cousin?
Me: Haha, I just beat you at CS!
Translation: 0w|\|d j00! C$ p053r!
Yeah, not to complain or anything, but I really think twice before reading game category articles anymore. :-/
"The page cannot be displayed".
The lesson here is: put your money where your mouth is and you may end up eating it.

I guess you've never gotten rained on? Never had anything spilled on a book of yours? Never tried to take a book to the beach?
I always hate it when a book gets all wrinkly because it got wet somehow.
How about search engines that ignore words of 3 characters or less? ;)
I think he was aware of that ;)
