For the first time, rentals of DVD releases surpassed those for VHS for the week ending March 16, according to the Video Software Dealers Association. DVD rentals totaled $80 million, while VHS rentals totaled $78 million.
Which means that yet another new three letter acronym product will sell more than the older three letter acronym product!
Here is a link to that story about that 36-inch TV for $99 on Amazon. People sued to get the TV for the advertised price, and lost.
I remember that because I also placed an order for a $99 RCA 36" TV from Amazon and received a letter back from them stating that they are under no obligation to honor "price mistakes".
Could someone explain why Amazon and other on-line retailers are not held to the same standards as their brick-n-mortar counterparts with respect to this? It still sounds like "bait-n-switch" to me...
The 6541 model of IBM monitors are quite old since they were manufactured from June 1997 - September 1997. It's amazing that they still work. Our company used to purchase Acer 34 and 76 monitors and they all failed within 3 years.
And only 5 reported failures? In almost 6 years? That doesn't sound too bad to me...
But the real kicker is Title IX: "No person in the United States shall, on the basis of sex, be excluded from participation in, be denied the benefits of, or be subjected to discrimination under any program or activity receiving Federal financial assistance."
I think it's really sad that a young person is classified as an "outcast" or a "loser" if he doesn't choose to define his life through sports.
You are right, they should define their lives by playing video games, surfing the 'Net, engaging in anti-social behavior, eating fatty foods, and sitting on their asses all day.
Here's one for the urban legend file: There used to be a couch in the lobby of the building, and every night at midnight (according to my dad who sometimes worked the graveyard shift), the face of an old Indian chieftian used to appear in the fabric. It used to freak out all the security guards who had to sit there looking at it all night.
Hmmmm, it sounds like the engineers weren't the only guys smoking crack at Atari...
Of course, the ants could mutate, grow hideously ugly faces, take over and land the shuttle and decide to make a break for it before we are forced to kill them...

On the bright side, I could see this as actually succeeding. Personally, I enjoy retrogaming, and would gladly pay a few bucks (perhaps even the price of a single "modern" game) for a *legal* CD with 50-100 classic games on it ($0.25 per game, with at least a quarter of them "good" games, sounds quite reasonable). I suppose this would have the number of people into classic video games as the biggest limiting factor, though
Me too. So what's the problem? How is Infinium Labs Corp (or any other company for that matter) getting the rights to the actual ROMs?
I knew Mandrake was in trouble when I could go to my local Dollar Store (the place where my wife goes in for no good reason and spends $35 on *NOTHING*!) and could purchase a fairly recent version of Mandrake Linux on multiple CDs (and assorted goodies) for...a buck!
90% of slashdot just simultaneously realized that these solar panels havent been developed because they are too busy looking at porn and playing warcraft.
Protectionism is a refuge of the selfish. Why should you deny Indians (or whoever else they decide to outsource programming to) jobs? Are they somehow inferior to the citizens of your own country?

A look back at last year's Gamespot's Best of 2001 Games shows Max Payne at #2 and Serious Sam: The First Encounter at #1. Since both games were published by the now-defunct GodGames, they are available at a huge discount.
Do yourself a favor and go to your local EB and pick up the Pack 5 Action Games which includes Serious Sam TFE, Heavy Metal 2 FAAK, Myth II, Oni and Rune for the grand total of $4.99! (Forget what the price says on the box, it will ring up less than 5 bucks). Serious Sam is a GREAT mindless shooter!
Also, Compusa had Max Payne for $4.99 right after Thanksgiving, so for less than $10 I bought the Top 2 PC games of last year and a whole lot more!
Microsoft is right. Most Linux folks are not normal.
