The Olympic Committee has been pushing for YEARS that they be the sole source of any information, media or other materials originating from the events. It's only a matter of time before they ban external reporters altogether and simply provide their own press releases throughout the days from their own staffers.
You'd think I was in the boonies, but I'm not. Prior to moving in I was told that not only was DSL available but they were upgrading to FIOS.
It IS technically available here, the issue is that there are no subscriber slots available. Cable has never responded to why it's not actually available other than 'it's not sorry'.
Cable isn't available at my house (not even internet, I have to use a cellular data access point), I don't have a clear view for satellite, there are no FIOS options and you won't let me just subscribe to HBO Go so I can watch from my phone or whatever, give me a legal option and I'll take it.
Hell, I bought the previous two seasons already, I'd LIKE to buy this one.
No cable available at my residence and I don't have a clear view to the sky for satellite service (tried that after moving in). Compounding issues is that I wasn't aware that there was NO high speed internet service of any sort here before I moved in, it never occurred to me that a new house a few minutes from Birmingham, AL would even HAVE that issue, but it is what it is.
I'd LOVE to be able to just subscribe to HBO Go on its own but I just switch between torrents and (increasingly, although I hate the restrictions) iTunes to get the television shows I want by leeching access from McDonalds and friends houses.
Can't even get DSL here, it sucks which is a rant I should reserve for another thread.

The downtime for the login servers (again, to play a single-player campaign) has been extended to 3:30PM EDT. At one point I was able to get into a queue (for my single-player campaign) but was randomly disconnected.
I could give a damn about duping and an exploited environment, I never played D2 online and I don't plan on playing D3 online, that's what I have WoW for.
I knew this going in, I was disappointed (I travel extensively, and it's rather difficult to find access points in the Southern US) since I wouldn't be able to play on-the-go, but I said 'well at least it'll be hella fun' when I'm home or at MOST of my destinations.
This is the first time I've broken down and actually purchased a DRM game of this type, and even though I realize that it's launch day, I'm still regretting it.
I can't help but wonder if Atari will continue and possibly expand upon Bioware's 'vision' of the intended purpose of the game engine itself.
Think about it.
Basically all BW did with NWN was release a set of tools for people/groups to create their OWN worlds/adventures/environments. From the looks of things, Dragon Age is going to be similarly engineered and even enhanced for the same use.
Granted, the single player campaigns sucked, (although HotU wasn't too bad comparitively speaking) but look at it from an Id standpoint. Come out with a great set of tools/engine and let the mod community do what they WANT to do with the game, rather than forcing them to adhere to the developers vision.
I personally think we're going to soon see a company release a set of tools only. Tileset editors, weapon/clothing/misc editors, environment. This wouldn't be a GAME release, but something for the mod community to use as they see fit to create from scratch rather than modifying an existing game. Think d20 in general without the limitations of being set firmly in a fantasy realm. Hell, there's even a mod underway to create a contemporary NWN mod!
I think things like this have the potential to change things in the gaming world far more than the advent of new rendering techniques. Changing the game experience for the end user is one thing, allowing US to change the way we play those games is another entirely.
Other than the obligatory, 'Windoze drools Linux roxxors' kind of statement, I'd advise you to download the updates separately, burn them to a CD/DVD from another previously patched machine (or a Linux box) and use THAT medium to apply the updates to your new install.
If you're waiting to see ME run something from the Windows line of software, you're in for a LONG wait.
Granted WindowsXP won't run on a PII, or even on a PIII when you get right down to it. The conversation wasn't about how much processing power J6P needs to run the latest version of Windows, but how much power he needs to do what he wants.
Which is download Pr0n, check e-mail & play Solitaire. Just because you perform tasks 1-3 on a WindowsXP box with 2GB RAM/250GB HD doesn't make you any more 1337, it means you're a moron who would use a Ferrari to drive across the street for smokes.
>>Uhh... I'm not sure if this is what cyberfunk2 had in mind, but perhaps it's because you basically quoted the chorus from the song Slipped Away (track 12) from her new Under My Skin album more or less verbatim?
I may be ignorant Or merely misinformed/ I'm not a fan, but I sure can understand...
Nahh, that couldn't be it.;-)
Wow, that's weird as all Hell, and of course there's no way to verify, but I've never heard Avril Lavigne that I know of before. For some reason I'm assuming BritneyPop? My tastes run a bit more along 'Nick Cave' lines.
Gotta admit, this is a Hell of a way to start my day, I feel like Dali is peeking over my shoulder now, waiting for Rod Serling to step from behind the daisies.

If so, how detrimental can it be for that code to be leaked? Conversely, if it's the frontend code which has been stolen, how many security hole....oh yah, Windows 95...ne'er mind...

SWG?
That instead of competition leading to advancements and improvements for the consumer, it's more often competition AGAINST fair USE for the consumer.
Ohhhhhh-Kay???
What is it, million monkeys with a million typewriters would reproduce the works of Shakespeare in a million years?
Slashdot.
10 monkeys 20 minutes.
All you have to do is inform them you refuse to agree to the TOS and they must BY LAW refund your money.
Worked on SWG, once the nerfs hit, one day I didn't click on the TOS, went back to Gamestop, explained to the manager, walked out with my cash.
I never lied, I simply abided by THEIR TOS.
Please explain just what the hell is wrong with pickles okra???
Simple solution.
Send her to BlockBuster with five bucks.
Movie, soda, popcorn.
Crisis averted.
Somtimes the simplest solution and all that rubbish...

That as much as we like to rip on 'choked' CPU's, Joe 6Pack doesn't NEED 1/2 the processing power that most of US use in our routers!
Jesus Christ, my router/firewall alone is a 333PII, which, for the average luser is WAY more than enough.
That said, I'm all for a new low-end CPU from AMD, let's me keep my overhead low and profits high. Good stuff, have some.
