Do you think the training and planning for the second WTC attack took place under Bush II's watch? You're wrong. It was already in place while Clinton was ruling the country by taking polls.
No need to be sorry, you're entitled to your opinion as am I.
The flight training situation points out that even though someone DID THINK there could be terrorists taking flight training, the report was buried before it could see the light of day. Why was that?
I disagree with you that we've done more damage then good in the name of "Protecting the Homeland." The fact of the matter is we haven't been attacked (on US soil) since 9-11-01, Afganistan is a FAR better place (and no long a free harbor to terrorists plotting to kill us) and we are actively pursuing a foreign policy that will result an a more secure and yes, free America and rest of the world.
I don't find myself more restricted nor do I find my freedom reduced at all.
I realize that's an unpopular opinion here. Too bad - it doesn't make it any less true.
As for people being detained; we're at war and these people are war criminals suspected of plotting to or actually killing us. Again the govt is doing a good job in rooting out these people and putting the proverbial thumbscrews to them. What people need to get used to is the idea that there are people in the rest of the world that completely and utterly opposed to our existence.
It's us or them and if you think you can negotiate with them, you're wrong - dead wrong.
"...pay attention to who's saying the government is wrong: Sheila Widnall. From 1993-1997, she was secretary of the Air Force, arguably the most technologically advanced of the four branches of the US military. For those not up on US government, the Secretary of the Air Force is the civilian head of the US Air Force. All the generals answered to her; she answered only to the Secretary of Defense, who answers to POTUS."
And the POTUS was who at that time? Clinton - a liberal, sniveling, groveling, lieing scumbag of a Democrat. You should also note that while Clinton was president the WTC was bombed and plans were being hatched (and training taking place) to hijack planes and fly them into buildings. While he was POTUS he and his administration passed up an oppurtunity to capture Osama bin Laden.
You might also have noticed that under him the morale of the military went to shit.
So I not only agree with the US Govt on this, but wish people would recognize that the previous US administration was completely inept and a complete disaster.
I'm glad the Govt is waking up. You folks who happen to think that every foreign student in our Universities can't possibly be a terrorist need to wake up and smell the coffee.
Nobody ever thought foreigneers taking flight school could be terrorists either. Look how that turned out.
Sure, it would be nice to be politically correct all the time and stick our head in the sand. Technology loves to be free, but when it can be turned around and used to harm you, you need to think about to whom it is being given freely.
"I hate to be paternalistic and say "trust your doctor," but who else is going to help you sort the wheat from the chaff? For instance, take the PDR. Few physicians I know regularly use it; it's simply a list of drug-company inserts, where they list every possible side effect of every possible medicine. Blah... most people will not have side effects, and if they do, it'll be a common one. I've had people go online and bring in a PDR printout to support their contention that "this new drug is causing all my problems! See? All my symptoms are listed right here! Talk about an uphill battle to keep them on a good medication..."
Yeah, but...
There IS a reason those side-effects are listed. The fact is, these people may in fact be correct!
I think it's encouraging that more people are become better educated about health care and medicine in general. My personal belief is a lot of drugs are over prescribed (antibiotics and ridilin (sp?) in particular). I've come to that conclusion through personal observation and, ta da, research on the internet.
So my response to your statement above is this; Good for them. Stay on your toes, answer the questions with solid facts and you'll have nothing to worry about.
"Using the CLI, you can write a wrapper that dumps a PHP-created web page to a static HTML file. Now you can use PHP as an authoring tool for statically served web pages. Nifty!"
Yeah, that does sound handy. I've been doing it for quite a while using wget and apache+php anyway.
>>Or run XWin-32, eXceed, or even VNC on ordinary PCs and share a large Unix machine?
Just want to chime in on something here;
If you folks haven't tried the Cygwin XWindow server you really need to give it a shot. I use it at home running xdmcp on my linux box (tucked away down in the basement) and can use Linux from any of my kids machines or my wireless laptop. It's incredibly useful - I would imagine even more so in an office setting.
I need Karma, real bad man. Please mod me up. I promise I won't waste it on first posts this time. Com'on Mr. Moderator, won't YOU PLEASE HELP ME!!!!!!!
Seriously, it's too bad Mandrake has come to this. I suspect they'll be gone soon for all of the reasons mentioned in the posts above. I actually installed it once, didn't see any reason to use over RedHat which IMO is the defacto commercial version Linux now.
Actually every "media" device in your house should have this capability. There should be such a thing as "storage" (i.e. hard drive) and everything from your video game console to your stereo to your video playback device and your computer should access it.
Put the "consoles" in their proper perspective; computers will be great for surfing the net and ordering content. Your video playback console is great for playing back your videos, and your stereo console is great for playing back music.
The point I'm making here is everything should be contected together, but accessed in with the console that makes sense. IMO, playing tunes and watching downloaded videos on a computer stinks. Playing video games on the TV rocks, but video game consoles with their own storage devices sucks.
If 802.11b wireless is the link that ties all these together, great, but it should be seamless and painless to the user to set it up.
I read over the list at Gamespy (I know, this is slashdot, but I wanted to see the list).
Quite frankly I didn't see a game there that looked worth playing. Is that why they're rare?
As far as the 2600 goes, I'd have to say Pitfall and Dragster where the best there.
Rare games for the PC: I have, in my posession, the full boxed version [with manual] of "Solo Flight" on 5 1/4" disk written by none other than Sid Meier!... sad, I know, but true.
Gimme a freakin' break!!! I can't imagine what goes through someones head to think that someone else might possibly want a bobble head doll in their likeness!

"We will change the way people think about the physics of Wi-Fi,"
Is bull.
The laws of physics as it applies to RF will not change, nor will this new "magic" antenna change the way people think about the Physics of Wi-Fi.
This is a directional antenna, the meaning of that has been explained in detail in many comments above this. Also, in the 2Ghz frequency range you won't be punching through mountains and other obstacles (like building walls) any better with this antenna than with already available designs. In other words, you won't be punching through them at all.
This is pure marketting, there are plently of directional antennas available for the 2Ghz range. Those other antennas don't change the way people think and they don't change anything we already know about RF physics. This antenna won't either. Hats off to 'em for getting all the free publicity, but there is nothing here that isn't available already.
Just think what will happen when MS responds to the Nigerian Scam Letter asking to transfer out US152MIL!!! They'll do it, but only after Nigeria buys US200MIL in software.

Or perhaps it would... since they would posses a skill that is in great demand and rare amongst their peers.

There is actually a law "illegal use of spandex."
It's on the books, but seldom enforced.
and btw; what is that color of spandex, you know the one, it's sort of green and has milk stains on it?
Ick.
