Low dose aspitin is commonly recommended for those at risk of heart problems. It is an anti-inflamitory, anti-coagulant and arguably even cheaper than caffiene.
The most intersting small-form-factor board I've seen recently is the new SensorTile from ST. It provides a 32bit ARM processor with FPU, bluetooth and microphone in a cm2 headset-scale pcb, with various docking boards for USB, microSD etc development.
This. There is also the problem of latency and reliance on internet connectivity, the sooner voice processing gets back out of the cloud the better I think.
The same could be said of Natural Intelligence... "your child could grow up to be Einstein or Hitler. ". In all probability though it'll just be more cogs in the social machine.
The big problem is that every calorie of food requires the input of 10 calories of fossil-fuel energy, mainly from oil and gas, which will be running out within your lifetime.
I can understand that it's easy for younger members of the/. community to snub their noses at such naivety, but I suspect it's more elderly people who may fall for this as they tend to be more trusting.
This would be much easier to do if all the items purchased in a supermarket had some kind of machine-readable label that linked to a database holding the product information and price...
Professor Michael Delp, one of the researchers, said: "We know very little about the effects of deep space radiation on human health, particularly on the cardiovascular system."
We do however know a lot about the effects of terrestrial radiation on human heath... a long-term side effect of radiation therapy to the chest area can be a increased risk of heart disease... apparently.:-/
Sounds good for outdoor use, but above 10Ghz the signal starts behaving more like infrared than microwave and is going to struggle to get through walls I think.
Every variation of every possibility has been legally locked up, The message I'm getting is "Don't try profiting from anything new of we'll sue you out of existence."
Ironic really, since the USA is more like Brave New World than Nineteen Eighty Four

This seems like something straight out of the film Jacob's Ladder. Scary.
Come to that will it also create a potentially nasty gamma-ray burst along with the extra visible light?

For that sort of thing, bacteria are a much better bet. Much more hardy than higher Earth-evolved species and proven to survive in suspended animation over the geological time-scales involved in interstellar travel.
For entertainment value, here's the Nvidia driver download page from 2001, with the driver weighing in at 6Mb.
Compare with 15 years later, driver is now 300Mb....
Software bloat at it's finest.
This begs the question of what the energy return on energy invested (EROEI) of the process is, that's what is most important I think.
Still making a killing on Android patents from direct competitors without having to lift a finger, must be nice.
That's damn hungry for IoT...
Meanwhile, ARM announces Cortex M23 potentially capable on running purely on harvested energy alone apparently.
Is that for real? I think I got RSI just from watching the video.

With 'Mission to Mars' and 'AI Singularity' covered, can't be long till there's a mention of a 'US fusion reactor by 20XX' now.

Statistically speaking, it's most probably just going to land in the ocean.
Costa Rica population has doubled within the last 35 years and is up 500% since 1950.. I'd say this level of population growth will cause long-term problems no matter how the countries energy is produced.
