The other fragbook is a Clevo (www.clevo.com.tw) and the most well known reseller is Sager - www.sagernotebook.com. Again, much cheaper than this place.

Yes, it does seem that a lot of people use modchips to pirate games. However, what the industry needs to be concerned with are the people who chip their boxes in order to avoid BUYING the game. It is only lost revenue if the person would have purchased the game if they did not have the ability to pirate it.

I have a modded X-box, and yes I have several "backups" saved. However, the primary purpose of my box is a Media Center. I have well over a 100gb of media on my network, and it can instantly be streamed to my TV + Stereo. Not bad for $150 and a couple of solder points.

Remember, there ARE a lot of legitimate uses for modded consoles; and most modded consoles are not costing the industry money.

Funny, because that is just what my $150 used XBOX accomplishes for me. It cost me nothing to mod the xbox (besides two solder points) and now I have a device that can stream just about any format from my PC (xbox media player), in addition to a myriad of other functions. Why would you pay more for this DVD player when it accomplishes that much less?

  8. Re:After reading the articles... on Xbox Linux Made Possible Without a Modchip · · Score: 5, Informative

It's too bad they probably won't get the 100k. In order to get the files onto the xbox, you need to use a prior exploit that DOES require something(007 save, swapping HDD etc)

Not at all. You do not need to make any modifications to the hardware to use the 007 hack. If you have a memory card with the savegame on it, then you can simply copy that to the HD and load the game. This boots linux with an ftp server. You do NOT need to open the box or solder the pins; you only need to do that if you want to flash the TSOP and effectively mod the bios. Once you use the 007 trick you have temporary ftp access to the box - you can ftp over and replace the font files. Now the box is as good as modded and no one will know the difference. In addition this is safer than flashing the TSOP because the BIOS is simply intercepted in hardware.

So in short - you can have a completley modded xbox without ever opening the cover.

You cannot have both sides of this argument. Any restriction the government places on things like this can be interpreted by some people as too broad. Either you take your government in small doses and shy away from government regulation, or you allow the government to regulate. Russia? too broke. China? they cant even feed themselves. The entire point of this use of robotics is to allow the almighty US citizen soldier to be out of harms way. Would you prefer a mechanized division of remotely controlled machines to attack an enemy (whoever, that enemy may be). Yes, NASAs spending is very low, however you are quite wrong to compare it to the military. Yes, other countries have significantly smaller miliary expenditures, however, we do have a much larger area to defend (and goodness knows we dont want to have the same size military as france, that could mean germany would invade us every 50 years ;-))

In any case, the government funding that is totally out of controll is entitlements! More than half of our national budget is used simply to dole out cash to private citizens and charities. In comparison, our defense spending is somewhere around 20%. I think it is incredibly clear what needs to go. Every year, the government writes checks to WAY too many people. We need to seriously scale back these needless expenditures. It is pointless to go after the comparitivly little guy (defense) when we can get much more money elsewhere. Simply cut 10% of entitlements and you have many, many BILLIONs of dollars to spend on space.

There is an INCREDIBLE amount of protection at this facility. It is amazing how some people can claim to be enviromentally concious and still bash nuclear power. Sure, it is not a wonderfully comfortable feeling to have nuclear waste in your back yard, however it is already! By consolidating our nuclear waste into a very well designed facility, we can ensure it will be protected. Or we can simply burn more coal.
