Yep, Rannie is who I had too and it was sad the amount of people who dropped out of Computer Science as a major just b/c of his antics. Somehow I made it through but it was definately rough and I made sure to NEVER take a class he taught again.

Wow, you didn't go to NIU did you? I had a professor at NIU for the exact same class you are speaking of and he wanted EVERY line commented too. One of the first assignments I commented every line except the END line (I don't remember the assembly command but I know it was something that a non-coder would recognize as the end of the program because it was an ASSIST command.) He took off 40% for a perfectly working program that didn't have that last line commented.

He also took off 60% on another program that worked perfectly except I didn't make the one part of it that outputted the calculations a separate subroutine (I misread the specs). 60% for not moving like 5 lines of code! This was a class that started with about 30 students and only about 8 were left for finals b/c the other 22 dropped the class. That professor was a dick.

what if VHS recorders ever did something similar. I mean what if the VHS recorder could tell when you were recording TV and would pop up ad's when you fast forwarded through commercials on the final recording. I don't know if it would even be possible, but if they found a way to do it a LOT of people would be pissed off. So what is the difference here? I don't own a tivo but I would be really pissed off if I did and had to find some way to disable this "feature". I had been considering buying a Tivo vs. setting up a MythTV box, but now I have a reason to go the MythTV route... just my 2 cents.

If no one has guns, no one gets to shoot people.

I disagree completely. If guns were made completely illegal then yes, a majority of the population would not be able to shoot people but the criminals will ALWAYS find a way to access guns. It has been said many times before, and I will state it again, if the criminals life involves breaking the law then why would they follow gun control laws?

The scariest part would be that now the violent criminals would know that they would have a huge advantage against law abiding citizens just by commiting their crime with a gun. I don't own a gun at the moment, but I definately don't want that option to be taken away from me or any other law abiding citizen.

Do I think it would be great to rid the world of weapons and live in peace? Of course I would want that, however, I am not short sighted enough to believe that by making guns illegal by law that it will keep them out of the hands of criminals.
